The C. family drove all the way from New York for their session with me this past week. No pressure or anything, really!!! I think it’s the farthest I have had someone come – when I was in PA someone drove 90 minutes. But these guys braved 95 through Connecticut. And anyone that has driven that knows how lovely it can be. But come they did, and with two absolutely beautiful little girls for me to photograph. When we were planning their shoot they said they wanted to use the RISD area since that is where they both went to school which thrilled me because I was itching for some urban! They took me all over the RISD and Brown University areas of the city (boy did I get my workout!!!!) and we got some great shots before watching the sun set over the city as we walked down the hill back to our cars. I had such a great time with them, little E. and C. were just great troopers and so cute. It was great to see how much E. loves her little sister and how much love, even after a 2 hour car ride, they had for each other. (And it was also great to see another set of siblings with completely different eye colors!) E. and W. it was great to finally meet you guys! Enjoy your photos and your precious little girls

Originally I set up to capture just little C. but when I saw mom’s expression I knew I had to get it in there. What resulted is a top ten favorite moment ever.

So as I posted on Saturday I began my Friday morning with the gorgeous Miss M. and her equally beautiful little sister, I. in downtown Providence. Their mom, E. is the owner of the fabulous Weddingbelle NYC bridal shoppe in Warren and found me though a local board that we are both on. Unfortunately little I. was feeling a bit under the weather and apparently had been so excited for our shoot that she had been awake since 3:30 in the morning. SO, I’ll be going back to have another little session with just her in the next week or two. But we still had a great time anyways and did manage to squeeze in some shots with her before she fell asleep snuggled up to daddy.

You know it’s going to be good when the girls show up in matching Daily Tea dresses and mom shows up looking like she just stepped off of a runway in a gorgeous coat from Rue La La (by the way, E., it’s www.theminisocial.com ) We were all over the park next to Hemenway’s in downtown, playing peekaboo, tossing leaves, singing Taylor Swift, etc (yes, this is the first time I have sung Taylor Swift on a shoot!!). I am sure there is a name for the park, but we just referred to it as that. It was my first “urban” shoot here in Providence and I think I could grow to like it! Thanks you guys for coming out on a less-than-warm morning, enjoy your sneak peek!!

Gorgeous girls

I. is at the stage that Layne was a month or two ago where she is just constantly babbling and cooing and seems to be telling you stories. I love that I caught her doing it

Mommy snuggles. Love E.’s expression here, total love for her daughter.

No matter how big they seem to be getting, you are still reminded some times of just how very little and precious they still really are

We got pretty lucky with the one stretch of nice weather in the entire weekend!!! I am so happy, too, that we didn’t have to reschedule because I had SO much fun. And with how much little R. moved it’s a good thing it was pretty cool – for a two year old, he is super fast! We still managed to get some great shots with the help of flowers, candies and, as always, singing songs. J. it was great to finally meet you after several emails I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!

A lot of photographers don’t like shooting maternity because, well, it’s a belly. I personally love them. Did I always? No, definitely not! But I have grown to appreciate what I am really shooting. First off, it is the time that, I think, a woman is at her most beautiful. And it’s not just a belly – it is the last few times of sanity, the last few moments of quiet, of intimacy, of romance before a new baby joins the family. Whether it’s the first child or the fourth, it is a time to step back and focus on what is coming. And to focus on the relationship. It is a session often full of emotion – we laugh a lot, sometimes there is a little tearing up, a lot of smiles, joy, nerves and a lot of pre-nostalgia if you can call it that.

I met A and J down at Narragansett beach last night for a little sunset mini-maternity session. They signed up for the newborn promo I am running because A. is due in a few short weeks and let me tell you, it’s going to be HARD to narrow down the photos from this session. Momma-to-be was beautiful, the light was absolutely delicious as you will see, and the sky got just incredibly gorgeous towards the end. Not to mention that they themselves were SO MUCH FUN! (I mean, hello?!?! She climbed up the side of a lifeguard stand for a picture!) But seriously, they have known each other since they were born (literally, their families have known each other since way long ago) and you can tell. There is an ease, a peace, a connection between them as they wait for their baby boy to join them. I feel so honored that they chose me to capture these moments and I can’t wait to see them again in a few weeks and meet their son!!!

Sometimes I get to throw everything out the window and do a shoot for a friend where I can truly relax, have fun and really do my thing. I mean, I do this to an extent with regular clients, but when it’s a friend, it is a world of difference. I met up with Dani and her hubby Steve on Sunday night to do some maternity pictures for their little munchkin. Munchkin is due in five weeks and I cannot believe how quickly the time has flown!! Dani and Steve had their engagement photos done at Sakonnet Vineyards in GORGEOUS Little Compton, RI, so it was wonderful to come full circle and do their maternity pictures here. (Now if only I could figure out how to get the newborn shots done there, too! Hehehe) Dani looks amazing for 35 weeks and I can’t wait to meet munchkin in a few short weeks!! I keep going back and forth whether it’s a boy or a girl but I think I have settled on BOY. My favorites. A lot of my favorites…

I spent an unbelievably warm incredible morning with the little misses M. and C. this past Saturday in Roger Williams Park. These two beauties were a little over 18 months and SO cute!! They definitely gave me a run for my money – literally! I love this age because they just run and run and run. They want to explore SO many things but at the same time can almost be stopped in their tracks by a simple game of peekaboo, or finding an interesting trinket / handle etc to stare at. We had a great time grunting at swans and running laps around the Casino porch and of course eating the requisite Cheerios! (There is a reason I tell parents to bring snacks!!) Thanks C. and C. for coming out in the heat and humidity and being such great sports through all of it Enjoy!

For those of you not local, no worries, we did not take them gambling – it’s one of the GORGEOUS buildings in the park

I already gave away one sneak peek of this precious baby’s shoot but I wanted to do some more as well. Doing a newborn session is (to me) one of the biggest perks of being a photographer. We get to come into the homes of our clients right at one of the most special times of their lives. We get to meet new babies often even before family and we get to hold these precious little tiny bundles of new life and photograph them at just a few days old. How can that not be THE coolest thing in the world??

Did you know that in terms of photography, the “newborn picture” period ends at right around two weeks? Maybe three, but that is stretching it. You never know what you are going to get when you go into a newborn session. You could have a very fussy baby or a very relaxed baby. It could be a baby who doesn’t sleep a wink during the session or a baby who sleeps the entire time. It’s a chance you take doing newborn photography which is why we want them to be SO young when we get them because, in general, they’re happy and sleeping the first 10 days (my absolute favorite is 5 days old). Little Miss E is the perfect example of why we want this. She slept almost the entire session. She woke up twice and settled back into a nice deep sleep each time and let me position her however I wanted. So besides being just SO deliciously adorable and beautiful that I wanted to take her home with me, she was just about the perfect baby in terms of what we hope for as photographers.

I loved pretty much every shot from this session so it was MORE than difficult to narrow it down for the sneak peek. But I managed. Somehow. Some of my favorites…

There is something about this next one that I just absolutely love. I cannot put my finger on it, but it just grabs my heart. Maybe it’s because my own daughter sleeps like this, I don’t know. Whatever it is, I’ll just sit back and enjoy it.

I’m not supposed to have favorites. I know I’m not. Really, I do know that. But I just can’t help it. My last three sessions have possibly been my favorites that I have ever, EVER done. Two sessions ago it was my favorite Philly family on my last shoot there. Last session was my ADORABLE maternity. And today my new Providence family. Possibly my favorite favorite, but again, I’m not supposed to have favorites. But you can judge for yourselves.

I met up with Lynn and Jim and their GORGEOUS little girls, C. and G. this afternoon for the continuation of their photo session with my new lens. Jim and Lynn own the fabulous Seven Stars Bakery here in Providence. Since I am new, it’s new to me but is pretty well known to others in the area. (In fact I’ve hear it’s very delicious so I am stopping in to buy some bread this week for our family vacation to the beach!) I was SO pleased that Lynn contacted me for photos of her family, especially since I am the new gal in town, the unknown! I had an absolutely crazy fun time during their session. We started with some photos down by the water at the beautiful Crescent Park in Riverside and then, after a quick outfit change, did some photos up in the park above the water. There was a lot of being VERY silly, lots of funny noises, funny faces, lots and lots of moving around and LOTS of fun. Gosh I love my job even if it does leave me a little more sore as I get older.

I know Lynn already checked once for a sneak peek, so here you go!! And I’m sharing a lot here. Not because it’s my favorite. No, not at all. Because I can because, well, I own this blog.

That is what my session Sunday morning was. I was all psyched up to do the session with the W. family but my lens, after an unfortunate accident with the hardwood floor the night before, decided to suddenly quit working right as we got started. I was able to grab this beauty (and isn’t she adorable?) while testing things out with my other lens but decided to call it a day to make sure that it was in fact the lens and not the camera itself. Thankfully, it was just the lens and an easy fix. In the meantime, for mom and dad, thanks again for understanding and here is a little something to tide you (and me!) over until our next meeting!!!
