Waiting for Sophie | Rhode Island Maternity Photography

I met up with this beautiful momma to be and her family this past weekend for a quick maternity session. They are expecting their second little girl, Sophie, in the next few weeks and mom looks GREAT!! I can’t wait to do their newborn session – the nursery is already decorated (with a gorgeous shade of grey on the walls that I always want for my own house!) and I have a feeling that big sister is going to be in love with the new little one. :) I love the last photo – life before it changes forever!!

One baby is fun at a session. Two is really really fun but really challenging. When mom called me for this next session, I admit, I was a little bit nervous. A family of four with nineteen month old twins and at the end of November outside! So many things could have gone wrong with this shoot. But it all came together beautifully. And I mean ALL. The weather was stunning. November 20 and it was 61 degrees and sunny. The family – absolutely gorgeous. The kids – adorable and so so well behaved and just so stinking CUTE. The hand-knit sweaters on the kids – perfection. It was seriously so much fun. And never in one session have I had as many family photos as I came away from this session with where everyone is looking!! As an added bonus I also definitely got my cardio workout in. ;) We met up at Lincoln Woods for my first time shooting there – an absolutely fabulous location!! The family took me all around and showed me the good spots. And we did the usual Amy Ro session things until the sun set – sang lots of songs, quacked like a duck, jumped up and down, said the word “poop” a lot. ;) All the good stuff. But clearly, it paid off. :D

On this rainy yucky day here in RI I am choosing to remember Sunday. When it was sunny. And pretty. And not raining. :) I met up with this little cutie and her mom and dad at their house for some family photos. Since the weather blessed us by being nice we were fortunate to be able to be outside for a majority of the photos. They had these gorgeous tall trees in the back that filtered the light beautifully. And with such an adorable little girl and family, it made my life really really easy!! :) Not to mention I *loved* the outfit choices!!

Every time I opened an image to edit from this session I just kept saying “Oh my God he is so adorable!” Over and over. I met up with little J. and his mom and dad to try our session again since he had been feeling under the weather the last time. This time, total 180. He was feeling great and was absolutely perfect. He was all grins and giggles, telling me and mom and dad what to do and where to go. We jumped, we sang, we played peekaboo – it was pretty awesome. I am so happy he was himself this time because he really was just 100% adorable!!

I started off my Sunday minis with this adorable little guy and his family! Although he was feeling under the weather and I think we are going to try again at a later date, I did manage to get some shots in before he decided he was done for the day. Every once in a while in the middle of a super stressful time such as holiday season, I need a refreshing. A cleansing of my spirits, my (photographer) soul, my memory cards. So I shoot for friends. I tell them ask them nicely when we are doing sessions and then I drag them out in the cold and shoot for them and for me. It is something I love to do. It is something they love that I do, too. (Or at least I am pretty sure – no one has strenuously objected so far! ) And I love when it is good friends that I can shoot with. Especially when I have been there since the beginning – through the maternity, and the newborn, and the six month phase. It’s special to me to watch them grow as a family, and even more special to get to document it with my camera.

This past weekend meeting me in the Downcity area on a brisk Saturday morning was one of these good friends. Miss L. has grown from a beautiful baby bump into an adorable toddler. She did absolutely awesome running all over the financial district and the cold didn’t seem to bother her one little bit. Could have been the awesome Boden warm jumper or the gorgeous sweater and hat that her grandma knit for her. Or just the excitement of being outside and being allowed to run through empty alleys and stand (with her parents) in the middle of deserted streets. (Note to clients: downtown areas are perfect on Saturday and Sunday mornings – there is no one around!) It was clearly good for her, and good for my soul as well.

The beautiful little Miss O. came to visit with me at the park last week for a session with her mom. We had a great time going all around the casino and up and down stairs, looking at geese (always a huge draw with babies and toddlers!) and doing photos. Though it was a lot of work to get her to smile and she wanted to be serious for a good part of the session, we did get some seriously cute little grins out of her anyways I know mom has been waiting patiently for these!

Some dear wonderful friends of ours came into town this weekend and I met up with them this morning for photos. Mom wanted to do them on Brown’s campus which I was thrilled about because no one ever wants to do a session there and it is to DIE for gorgeous and the leaves are in their last days of peaking. They are driving back to CT now but for when they get home, I thought I would put two images up for them to see. Just beautiful. And can you believe that she is 26 weeks pregnant?? Amazing.

Remember when you were in middle school and you would get asked if you “Liked Johnny” or if you “LIKED liked Johnny? There are some clients I just adore. I will admit it. I have my favorites. I do. (And I think that anyone who says they don’t is lying.) That doesn’t mean I like my other clients less at all, I just have…people I LIKE like. The C family is one of those families. One of my first clients here in RI, I met them over a year ago to do family pictures of their little girls. You might remember them…

They must have like liked me as well because on Sunday we met up for some family pictures once more. It was awesome to see how the girls have grown and have gotten even more beautiful. I actually did not recognize them at first when I saw them walking in the parking lot at Borderland State Park because I thought that there was no way they were that big – but they were!! Sweet little S. turned 2 the day of our Session and A. is a totally adorable firecracker of a five year old. So many times during this shoot and in looking at the photos after I kept thinking “this picture is TOTALLY five.” Or “this is SO what a two year old is.” It’s just those ages. Those awesome, fun, adorable ages. One on the verge of being a supermodel posing and one not quite ready to let go but so wanting to be like her big sister. We had fun traipsing all over Borderland – even hitting some areas I had never made it to!

Mom and dad it was so great to see you guys again, enjoy the sneak peek!! And I TOTALLY blame you (nicely) for our having tacos for dinner that night!

Precious | Rhode Island Baby Photography

I have been extremely busy these past few weeks – 9 sessions in eight days topped by a wedding this past Saturday. Awesome and fun but super intense and slightly exhausting. As a result though, I have tons of things to share as you could probably tell by the number of posts last week. I have more this week!!!

First up today is a very very incredibly special session. Last year around Christmas time I took part in a national program called “Giving is Awesome.” Basically it was to find a very deserving family and give them the gift of photography. A session and all of the files from that session. I got several wonderful, amazing and heartbreaking entries but the one that stood out to me the most was the story of baby Violet. I don’t want to get into too many details, but mom has had many struggles over the years with some major health issues and their dream of having a baby didn’t ever seem to be happening. Through a few blessed twists of fate, they were able to adopt the beautiful baby Violet. Her adoption was just finalized last month and she turns one any time now. So it was the perfect time to do their session and celebrate what a miracle they have received.

We had such a great time during their session and Violet is not only beautiful, but so sweet and scrumptious. And as a side note, it turned out that both the nominator and the nominee went to UConn with Matt so he got to reconnect with them as well. Good all around Enjoy!
