Fashion Friday – Think Spring! | Rhode Island Photography

Well it’s official – we are on the way towards SPRING!  I can feel it in the air.  Really, I can.   Okay, I can’t…but I like to tell myself I can ;)   One place I can definitely feel it though is in the stores.  If you go shopping like I did trying to find anything for winter, GOOD LUCK!  Spring fashion is here and I am so excited! While fall is hands down my favorite season, Spring is a close second (once you take away the allergies!).  So this fashion piece here is going to focus on vibrant colors.  Think bright things.  Step away from the rust colors and deep greens (as much as I love both of those).

For girls, bright cute dresses or tunics.  For cooler weather shoots, layer them over a funky long sleeved tee with leggings or jeans.  For warmer weather, wear them on their own with sandals.  My favorite looks are from Boden (always) and Daily Tea for the spring.  I absolutely ADORE the first dress in Boden – it has funky beading sewn onto the bodice which I just LOVE and comes in a few different colors!!!  And Daily Tea as always has wonderful coordinating looks – check out their leggings and pants selections.

For boys, polos and button down shirts are easy choices.  For cooler weather, again layer them over long sleeved tees and pair them with a pair of cargos or a sweater. For warmer weather, shorts and sandals or khakis.  The in things for boys as always in the spring – golf looks and sporty looks.  I personally think both are an adorable style.  Very preppy, clean cut and fun.  Just try not to get too casual with the sports theme.  You can definitely have fun with it and it gives you some wiggle room, but not too casual.  The other look is just the preppy look period.  Love a blazer on a little boy :)   (but personally, I would go darker on the jeans for that look.)

So think BRIGHT!  Think FUN!  Think SPRING if you’re planning a session!!!!

What to Wear Wednesday | Providence Photography

This week I am going for the pink :)   I found this adorable outfit from Janie & Jack for a little girl and fell in LOVE with the little brown capelet!!  (I must have this for Layne.  I think I can fit her chub underneath…I also think Matt is going to soon start hating when I do my What to Wear searches)  So I went from there to mom.  And for mom, the highlight in my mind is the gooooorgeous pair of brown flat boots by Modern Vintage.  I just love them.  Very sensible with kids because they are flat, but still very classy and a little sexy.  And every mom should feel a little sexy, especially when they get their pictures taken!  I paired that with a nice dark denim skirt and a pale pink sweater.  Then a nice chunky brown sweater with a pale pink striped shirt and khaki/olive pants for dad and a brown and ivory sweater with jeans for a boy.  Different shades of brown and pink, but it all pulls together nicely.

What to Wear Wednesday 10.28 | Providence Family Photography

It may be 10:40 on Wednesday night, but it’s still Wednesday!!!  For this week’s WTW, I used one of my FAVORITE colors – orange.  And one of my absolute favorite dresses ever for little girls.  Meet the Funky Knitted Dress from Mini Boden.  Have you noticed my love for Boden yet??  They are just so good and so cute.  And this dress AH!  I just love it.  A touch of whimsy, a punch of color and a touch of funk.  I paired it with either blue or purple tights and the finished it with the bright orange rain boots.  Now, one rule of thumb for dressing for photos – don’t wear something you would never normally wear.  For some families, this look would not work at all.  But for others, it totally goes.  I personally want to order every size of this dress for Layne for when she gets bigger.  I matched it up to a structured jacket for both mom and dad and a pretty top for mom playing off of the purple and a nice cotton cashmere sweater for dad in the orange.  Then casual but nice jeans for both.  You could also add in a scarf and hat for the little girl and layer a long sleeved tee underneath and have a cute colder weather outfit for photos without needing a coat.

Any requests for next week?  Colors, families, etc?
