One month old

So Layne has already reached one month of age.  Craziness!  I cannot believe it has already been that long.  Here are a few from our photo shoot today:)I did a little vintage-y softness on the second…

Now a few tips for those of you shooting your own pictures of newborns and infants, since people often ask:

1. Get warm. Seriously warm. As in you’re sweating warm in the house. Think 75 degrees or so on the thermostat warm. It might boost your heating bill but you’ll only need it for an hour or two.

2. Get naked. Not you, the baby:)Although snapshots in clothing are just fine (and I have too many to count of my kids in spit-up and stained patterned outfits), if you want to capture timeless, beautiful photos, get them undressed. This only works up to 6 or 9 months if you’re really good.

3. Get full. Again, not you, the baby. Feed the baby 20-30 minutes before you want to do photos. If they fall asleep, which they likely will if they are a month or younger, then you can get beautiful sleeping photos. If they stay awake they will be happy.

4. Get comfortable. Use a boppy, or a blanket, something soft to cuddle the baby in for photos.

4. Get on their level. Think about where you take pictures from – usually up high. Get down on the floor. Sit on a stepstool, get down eye level with them. Makes for a much better photo.

There is a lot more that goes into it, but those are my basic tips for beautiful photos. Now get out there and try it.:)
