Nursery Contest VOTING!! | Rhode Island Baby Photographer
Wow!!!! I received TWELVE awesome entries for the nursery contest – I am so thrilled! They were all so cute and I am so excited that all of them entered that I decided to go ahead and post ALL of them here for voting!! Below you will see the twelve choices. I tried very hard to pick just the two best photos of each nursery and chose to leave the babies faces out of them (or block them out) since some images also feature names. Each one is numbered 1-12 and after the last nursery there is a poll in which you can choose your winner.
The winning nursery family will receive a complimentary session focusing on the baby and nursery, one 8×10 image and (2) 5×7 images from their session as well as 20% off of any additional purchases. There is also a second place prize of $100 print credit and a 3rd place prize of a $50 gift card to Bellani Maternity.
A few ground rules:
- You are only allowed to vote one time
- You are allowed to tell as many people as you like, advertise it as you like, etc. Please do NOT make any disparaging remarks about the other nurseries. If I find out that any such thing has occurred the parties responsible will be removed from the contest
- Voting ends on March 13th at midnight
- Winners will be announced on March 15th

These are all great…but if the person who did #9 could tell me where they got the basket on the floor with the orange elephant. I love it and the rug is great too!

What a cool contest. Love the creativity.
Nursery # 2 was painted by the baby’s grandmother with some help from a friend and we love that every inch of his room, including the ceiling, is filled with different animals and things from nature for him to discover. He says goodnight to all the animals and even the moon every night!

I think the contest is great and the nurseries are all gorgeous! My one question is, why give away something valuable and FREE to the family who spent the most at Pottery Barn Kids? I don’t live in RI anymore, but my daughters room has a handpainted tree (instead of a $300 decal), hand painted bookshelf that i found for free near a dumpster, hand made and hand dyed crib bedding (by me), etc. I made decals for her walls out of inexpensive contact paper and scissors. I am not saying it is more beautiful than these very expensive and elaborate nurseries. They are all gorgeous, don’t get me wrong. I just can’t see how these obviously wealthy families are deserving of a free photo session which I personally could never afford, and they most certainly can. Does that make sense or does it just make me sound jealous? I hope it makes sense…
I just wanted to add… I love the fact that nursery #2 is handpainted, and read that the giraffe in the safari room is also handpainted.
Well honestly I think that is the great part about this! The nurseries are all completely different. Some might be more hand-done and some are more store-bought but clearly they have all been put together with lots of love and thought from the families for these babies. And the public is voting. I have absolutely no say in who wins here!! As for who can afford what, I have learned that what people have is no definite indicator of what they can afford 🙂 And besides, everyone deserves a chance to get something nice and free once in a while!
I have to agree. I wanted to enter our nursery but I knew it would not stand a chance against all the expensive ones. You can tell most of the nurseys cost a pretty penny to put together. I am sure who ever wins could afford thier own photo session.but Who wouldn’t want something for free. That being said they are all beautiful and good luck to all who entered.

My nursery is one of the ones above and I have to point out that looks can be deceiving. I hand painted the wall in my daughter’s nursery (not #2 either), my mother hand made all the bedding, and the items I did purchase were purchased off etsy.com, from the clearance section of local stores, or were items that I have had and reused. Not a single item was from PBK. I also know one of the tree nurseries above was hand painted as well–not a PBK decal. While I respect your opinion, I just wanted to point out, as the mother and “designer” of one of the nurseries, looks can be deceiving…and really, if a photo of an inexpensive “homemade” nursery looks like it came out of a PBK catlog, then I guess that’s a compliment.
Looks can be deceiving!! My daughter has a lot of PBK in her room but mostly everything was a gift or on sale (we got her PBK tree decal for less than $50).
I think the rooms with hand painted art work look beautiful, but for us not-so-artistic folks, decals are great!!

I think this is a great contest! Everyone has an equally beautiful and special nursery. To Mary’s comment. I do not agree I don’t think that just because someone purchases something from pottery barn makes them wealthy. I love each and every design I wish everyone the best of luck. I think this contest is brilliant! My good friend has nursery #7 and I know her husband locked the door of the nursery and surprised her with this classy beautiful room. To her this was a special and emotional moment and I don’t feel it’s because she is “wealthy”! To all the other pottery barn and non pottery barn rooms…Well done Someday when I have children I would love to have any one of these nursery’s!! 🙂

I think all the nurseries are simply beautiful and the babies that sleep in them very lucky to have such gorgeous and thoughtful places in which to grow. I don’t have my own kids yet, but in the spirit of honesty I can’t say I don’t like or wouldn’t want the things I see in PBK. At the same time I am reminded that this is a contest, and will be a very special and memorable opportunity for whoever wins. It’s not a display of, nor should it be a critique of, someone’s economic standing. And I for one would be careful in assuming that an item (or items) from PBK is synonymous with wealth. Let’s remember that everyone’s situation and path varies and although it may be easy to make assumptions and pass judgement, it’s kinder and classier to resist. Each and every nursery is created out of love, and shouldn’t that be the only prerequisite? This contest is a beautiful way to take pride in something created out of love. Number 3 is all hand painted!
#7 is not just from PBK. My friend sketched out the whole room, designed the whole room put in recess lighting painted the pictures inside the frames, created built in’s in the wall (which are not shown, and built a built in double closet with shelves (also not shown) painted the walls put up the chair rail, It took him 3 months to design, paint, and decorate all as a surprise to his wife! He put his heart in this room for his son! I am sure every single nursery has it’s own story of love that went into designing the nursery, and every single room is perfect and beautiful and has a great chance at winning. I hope that using pottery barn is not a sterio-type for being “wealthy” and “undeserving of this contest” because that is so not true! It took my friends two years to conceive their child and lots heartache trying. Their son and their nursery mean the world to them and EVERYONE is deserving of this contest. I wish EVERYONE love and support and lots of luck. All of these rooms look like winners to me! Amy Ro you did a great job with this contest and you are a fabulous photographer.
The tree, art and some of the furniture in number 8 were all hand painted as well. It was discouraging to see that critical comment on here. This was such a cool idea for a contest. Thank you to Harry and others who left supportive comments.

Wow! Really interesting to have a comment like that in such a great contest. And I can honestly admit that I can afford to buy such a great picture package (and I have. Amy took my son’s newborn pictures) but our nursery doesn’t look half as beautiful as these contestants. I don’t have the creativity & passion that these beautiful mamas share, and I didn’t run to PBK or call an interior designer to make up for it. I know many of these women who spent countless hours on their vision. They put their heart and soul into their child’s room. And they deserve their winnings!

All of these rooms are beautiful and you can see the parents put a lot of time and thought into each one. Designing our son’s nursery not only brought my husband and I closer, we were able to make a room that our newborn can enjoy for many years to come. We spent countless hours debating paints, furniture, etc. In the end, our family has a room that we will cherish and watch our son grow in. Thank you for allowing us to show others our efforts. We had a blast doing our son’s room!! We only hope that the negative people out there know that the parents of these children who live in these nurseries have put their hearts into making a home for these wonderful babies. Many apologies for making anyone feel they need to defend their nursery. They are all absolutely perfect, as I said before. I work as a nurse for Nurse Family Partnership and I visit the homes of low income families expecting babies weekly until their children are 2 years old. I see over 40 families a week. I see all of their nurseries. All of these people would love to be able to have a nursery like any of these pictured. This is not supposed to make you feel guilty for what you have as much as appreciate it. You are all blessed with enough (whether it be from yard sales or pottery barn) to provide your child with a beautiful place to sleep and dream and imagine. I just wish there was a contest for people like them. Who love their children more than anything and would love professional photos more than anything but it will never outweigh putting food on the table.
For someone like me, who created most of my child’s room but bought everything to create it, I am somewhere in the middle. I am proud of what I have and what I have made for my child, but still cannot pay for professional photos! 🙂 I do not mean to criticize or diminish the beauty of this contest. Apologies to anyone who had hurt feelings or feelings of guilt for being able to provide such beauty to the apple of their eye.
