Gorgeous Downtown Providence Couples Session | Amy Ro Photography

Two weeks ago, Dan and Lorrie met me for a gorgeous couples session in Downtown Providence.  Back in July I held a giveaway to celebrate my tenth wedding anniversary.  I wanted to give a couples session away to one other couple also celebrating ten years of marriage this year – no kids, no family, just a married couple likely more than deserving of a few pictures of JUST THEM.  I had a bunch of entrants for it –  some funny, some sweet, all wonderful.  In the end I literally ended up picking the winners out of a hat because I simply could not decide after narrowing it down to a handful of contenders!!  And Dan and Lorrie were my winning couple.   I honestly believe that I was meant to photograph them, and they even said something to that effect to me a few days afterwards.  Parents of one (I am sure) adorable little girl, they had not been out on a date forever other than a recent short trip for their actual anniversary.  Like so many others of us, they are caught up in the everyday of being parents and I think had probably forgotten a bit to still be husband and wife (It happens SO easily, doesn’t it – I know with three kids it sure does here!)   So that Saturday night we spent about an hour together focusing on just them.  Their relationship, their love for each other, their connection.  I love love LOVE what we captured and hope they will as well.  Here are a few sneak peeks from our session together – enjoy!

Beautiful eight day old baby girl Nora had her newborn session last week as I was prepping to go to the Click Away conference in Utah.  So her sneak peek got a bit delayed, sorry mom and dad!!  You may remember gorgeous Lauren and her family from her maternity session a few short weeks ago – well they were just as awesome at her newborn session.  Big brother Kyle, while he seemed a bit shy at first with Nora, we soon got him nice and comfortable.  A lot of siblings simply don’t know what to do with a newborn!  I get some that want nothing at all to do with them and some that won’t leave them alone – I work with it all.  And while I tell parents that I will never guarantee a newborn shot with a sibling, I do most definitely try my hardest because I know parents love it.  🙂   After some feedings and some rocking, Nora gave us beautiful sleepy images.  We even got to get outside for some family images as well – my favorite part of non-winter sessions!!  (It makes me want to move somewhere warmer!)  After that we came back inside to finish with some baby-centered images and Nora ended with some beautiful quiet alert time.  Loved seeing those gorgeous eyes – looks like she’ll match her brother soon.  🙂  Here are a few sneak peeks from our session together – enjoy!

I don’t even quite know where to begin talking about Erin and her family because I had such a great time with them.  She initially contacted me a while ago for a session after her sister in law (who I still swear she looks like!) had one done here in Rhode Island.  Unfortunately at that point, the timing just didn’t end up working out.  Then I heard from her again a little while ago – their oldest baby was leaving for college soon and they wanted to get in a family session before he went away.  Thankfully, we were able to work out a time to get together and I am SO so so very happy we did.  Now, I don’t normally photograph teenagers.  Newborns, babies, those are kind of my thing.  Teens?  Eh not so much.  I think I flash back to when I was teaching high school Spanish ten years ago so I am only really able to relate to teens as a teacher – doesn’t really work when you are a photographer.  PLUS they don’t usually like the Little Einsteins theme song and if I were to bark like a dog or quack like a duck, I’m not going to get the expressions I was looking for  😉  But I was excited about working with something outside of my wheelhouse, so I packed up my stuff and headed off to Connecticut.  We met in an area just outside of their town of Farmington called Collinsville on the suggestion of a friend – what an awesome, fun place!  And there we traipsed around for about 90 minutes doing photos in a few different locations.  I don’t know that I have had that much fun at a session, or laughed that much in quite a long time.

What an amazing family.  And I mean amazing.

First there are Erin and Eric, married 20 years still as in love and silly as when they first met.  Then there is Jordan, getting ready to leave for college, a complete goofball with a kind heart and a great attitude.  After that, Kelly,  the middle child making her way through high school who is beautiful and funny and sweet.  And then Owen, the youngest and quietest of the bunch (at least during our session he was!), definitely not as outgoing as his brother and sister (YET) but with the best smile and eyes that just lit up when he laughed.  Or when he looked at his family.  And that is one thing I wrote to Erin after our session was over – the looks that I kept seeing between all of them, you could just *feel* the love there.  I know it sounds corny, or silly or whatever, but this was a family that – if MY family with three kids turns out like them, I will clearly have done something very right in my life.

The main purpose of the session was to get photos before Jordan left for school and I could very easily tell how he was going to be missed and how he was going to miss them.  Brothers and sisters and families don’t always say exactly what they’re thinking.  But I saw it.  And I hope my camera captured it for them.  🙂

When I shot Aletha’s maternity session (see it HERE), I just knew in my heart that not only would I see them again very soon (she was 39 weeks when we shot it) but that the newborn session was going to be great.  They were such a very cool family with an amazing location, but there was also so much love between them all – they made it look easy.  Sure enough, Ashton arrived a few days after his due date and when I went back out, the newborn session WAS great.  We started on her parents’ farm again and ended up doing some basic baby shots back at their house.  Ashton was a trooper allowing us to shoot outside early in the morning and sleeping wonderfully when I worked with him later in the day.  I know Aletha has been waiting for these since they were delayed due to vacation, so without further ado…Ashton 🙂

Just under two weeks ago I headed over to meet Jen and EJ’s newest little babies – Austin and Abigail.  Having already photographed big brother when he was a newborn, it was such a huge delight to go back and photograph these newest arrivals!!  At just under two weeks they were a dream to work with – as was big brother.  He was seriously one of THE BEST toddler siblings I have ever ever ever worked with.  He was so good, he clearly adores his new brother and sister  🙂  I know mom and dad have been waiting for these patiently while I was away on vacation so without further ado…
