Lauren – 33 weeks | Rhode Island Maternity Photography

I bookended my Saturday with maternity sessions 🙂 Saturday evening I headed out to Massachusetts for Lauren’s session with her family. I first met Lauren and her family a few years ago – her sister in law is one of our good friends and Lauren and her husband received a gift certificate from them as a baby gift. That resulted in these images:

Fast forward to three years later and Lauren is pregnant again – but this time with a little girl!! So I headed back out to do a gorgeous sunset session with them in their backyard. We had amazing, stunning, perfect light to work with as well as an amazing family and I absolutely LOVE the colors and emotions in the session. Big-brother-to-be Kyle was an absolute DOLL! In fact for the first five or ten minutes of the session he brought out HIS little camera and followed me around taking photos as I took photos. 🙂 Loved it!! He is so excited to be a big brother and you can just tell the entire family is so excited for their new little girl to arrive. I know I can’t wait to meet her!!!!

Aletha – 39 Weeks | Rhode Island Maternity Photography

Aletha called me from the Cape last week in a little bit of a panic because the photographer she was going to use was unable to shoot her maternity portraits as scheduled. Turns out, she was 38 weeks pregnant and very eager to get some photos done. I had some room in my schedule so I said sure – and boy am I glad that I did!!! To do the session, we decided to shoot on her parents’ 25 acre farm out in Foster very early Saturday morning. I admit – it’s a part of the state I had never been to. But it was STUNNING. Fields, stone walls her father built by hand, horse paddocks, a barn (with horses!), trees, woods, just gorgeous. (And there were more areas I didn’t even get to see!) We traipsed all over the place and at 39 weeks she absolutely ROCKED the shoot. One of the things she was most interested in was definitely showing her beautiful, glowing belly. So being in the middle of nowhere on her parents farm, we did just that. Many clients won’t bare a lot of skin during their sessions, or if they do, they don’t want it blogged. I hope and hope that they will see these photos and reconsider. Pregnant women are just positively glowing and one of the most beautiful things in the world (says the woman who’s been pregnant three times 😉 ) So without further ado since it’s possible she is in labor literally right this minute…

Rachel – 32 weeks | Connecticut Maternity Photography

For anyone that has followed my blog for a while, you have seen this family before 🙂 John and Rachel are some of our closest friends – John was the best man at our wedding and my husband was a groomsman at his. Although we don’t get together nearly as often as we want to (and should!) we try and make time when we can. So far I have gotten to do maternity, newborn and six-ish month portraits with their family with their first little girl, Veronica….

Well now, they are expecting girl #2 at the end of August! We are so incredibly happy for them and I am so SO happy I could do these shots for them when we were in Connecticut for the Fourth of July. I took them down to the rocks and beach area on the Long Island sound for a quick sunset shoot and it was everything I had pictured in my head. Much much love to this family. <3

Felix – 8 Days | Rhode Island Newborn Photography

I first met the D. family a few years ago when big brother was only a little 7 month old and since then we’ve met up two other times for two other sessions, including a maternity session a short while ago…

And then…well then gorgeous baby Felix was born. Being my fourth session with this family, along with having had dad in one of my classes that I teach, I already had a wonderful bond with them. There is something about being continuously invited into people’s lives – I’ve said it before – it is such an amazing feeling. You get to know them so well and hanging out with them never feels like work. It’s more like fun (especially when you get to play Buttons and Bugs on mom’s iphone with big brother while waiting for a nursing baby! 😉 ) I know mom especially has been excited for these, so no more talking. They know how much I adore them all. Onto the photos!!

Get Manual 2014! | Rhode Island Photography

That’s right, it’s time for another class! It’s been over a year since my last one and since I’ve had a few people ask, I figured, sure! Why not one more class before the baby comes?!

Major Details:

Do you have a DSLR camera? Would you like to learn what goes into taking a good photo and how to get OFF of auto? If so, my “Get Manual (2014 Edition)” workshop is for you. You will learn about what goes into taking a photograph with your camera – from how to create pleasing compositions to aperture, shutter speed and ISO and how they work together to form the “exposure triangle.” You’ll also learn a few things about lighting your subjects. Please note I will NOT be teaching you how to portfolio build or any other aspect of business.

Will you come out of this shooting like a pro? Not at all – that takes years of hard work and practice. But will you learn WHAT goes into a photo? Definitely. This mini-workshop is limited to under 10 participants so it will be a nice small intimate learning environment and you will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Each participant will receive a copy of notes to take home with you along with some other handouts .

WHO is this workshop for?
Moms, dads, anyone who wants to learn the basics of taking a decent photo. This is designed for beginners to digital photography and SLR cameras. Any photographers who are currently skill or portfolio building or in business are not allowed. (And besides, if you’re taking this class you shouldn’t be in business!)

WHAT are the requirements?
You must own an SLR camera – a camera with interchangeable lenses. You do not need to have a bunch of lenses, but you must have the ability to change lenses. No point and shoots. You should also have a manual for the camera that you can bring with you to the class.

WHERE will it be held?
My house in northern Cumberland, RI. The address will be provided to attendees. Please note we do have a cat in the house so if you are allergic to cats it would not be a good environment for you.

HOW much does it cost?
The cost will be $200 per participant.

WHEN will it be held?
Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 10:00-3:00. Light refreshments will be served. The deadline to register by is Saturday, February 15, 2014.
