Ten on Tuesday | Rhode Island Family Photography

1.  This is the week that we are in NC for vacation and I have been SO excited to go!  We spent four years in NC while Matt was in medical school and I loved pretty much everything about it except the distance from our families.  But we can’t wait to be there again!  I am sure I will take PLENTY of pictures as there will be four kids for me to shoot as well as my gorgeous awesome pregnant friend 🙂  🙂

2.  I am feeling the itch to do a giveaway soon.  I have an idea of what it will be but need to finalize it!

3.  To make you smile

4.  I am over 500 fans now on Facebook!  I have no idea where they all came from but I am so so thrilled that they are there.  I am pretty humbled by the fact that people even fan me to begin with, much less that over 500 people do!  Now begins the quest for 1000.  I figure hopefully (possibly maybe?) by the end of the year.  I will have to think of something fun to do to celebrate that milestone when it happens.  I haven’t thought of what to do for 500 yet though so that first…

5.  I have had two couples sign up with me for my “love shoots.”  If you are interested I am still looking for one more couple.  I am looking for happy, in love, stylish couples to shoot.  No kids, just you and your hubby, wife, partner etc.  The couples who sign up receive a waived session fee and 50% off of any purchases.  You must be willing to let me use your images on my website and in marketing materials and come dressed to impress (with one or more outfits!)  I have one shoot scheduled on Brown’s campus and another down near Narragansett.  I’d love to do something a little more urban and edgy (when I find that in RI??) for my third couple (or a day trip to Boston!).  If you are interested, contact me at amy@amyrophotography.com!!

6.  Going off of that, I am thinking of adding couples sessions and lifestyle sessions to my offerings.  I am just still working out what I would offer for it!  I already knew I wanted to work more adults into my work because I *so* enjoyed doing the engagement with Kristina and I really believe couples should still do photos of just them even after marriage, kids, etc (says the woman with no photos of just her and her husband!).  But spending three days shooting my cousin’s son really convinced me that I would *love* to do lifestyle sessions for a client.  Not three days because, well, that would be insane and I don’t know any strangers that like me THAT much right off the bat 😉 but a day in the life kind of a thing.  So I am hoping to introduce those sometime in the next month or so!

7.  In family news, my children continue to grow.  It’s getting a little crazy.  Matt and I noticed the other day that Layne’s head is actually above the top of the dining room table.  Not the whole thing but she is definitely taller than the table now.  Someone has to tell her that she is only 15 months and needs to slow down.  Her hair is out of control but someone doesn’t want to get it cut yet (hint: that someone isn’t me 😉 )  And Nolan, well he is just continuously getting bigger and bigger.  He grows when he sleeps I think.  I have also come to realize that he is going to eat me out of house and home down the road!!  Such are boys apparently, though!  One thing has become more and more apparent as well – he loves being a big brother and he absolutely adores Layne.  (Until she breaks something he built with his legos!)  He goes into her room in the morning and we can listen to him reading her a book and singing her songs and hear her beautiful baby giggles.  He runs ahead of us to get her from her nap and constantly plays and has dance parties with her in the living room to “Party in the USA.”  Fun times 🙂  Here are two total snapshots of them in her room from an afternoon nap wake up!  (See what i mean about the hair?!)

8.  I am starting to book sessions into May and June so if you’d like a summer time session, don’t wait too long!

9.  I am considering somewhere in the back of my mind possibly maybe doing a workshop on Photoshop.  Teaching basic editing techniques to people who use Photoshop or Photoshop elements.  Again, this is very tentative and very preliminary stages.  I don’t even know how I would do it but I was asked so I’m thinking about it, I promise!

10.  Sadly, my boys in Orange decided to fall asleep and stop playing lost in the Sweet 16.  I am very very sad about this, especially because I did not get to put Layne in her SU cheerleader outfit that a friend sent me.  BUT they did guarantee the second part of my March Madness special.  Everyone who has a session between now and June 30 will receive 10% off of their total print and product order.  I wish it had been more (trust me, I REALLY do) but 10% it is.  And the session fee for anyone booking by April 5 will only be $100 instead of $200.

That’s it for this week.  Hope you’re all having a great week so far!  Check back tomorrow for some more photos of baby C!

As I mentioned before I went back photograph gorgeous baby C. in her house last week.  I have found myself doing more and more beanbag work with newborns and less lifestyle work and I really regret that.  When I walked into A. and J.’s house I knew immediately that I wanted to use some of it for the shots.  Their decorating taste is just absolutely perfect.  They have mixed Ikea, salvaged recovered pieces, art, Etsy and classic furniture all together in such a wonderful and classic style.  And I absolutely fell in LOVE with the nursery from the moment I opened her entry into my contest.  🙂  It was (is) so classic and minimalist and just serene and beautiful.  So when I went back last week for a second shoot, I had very specific images in mind that I wanted to get.  Here are the first two, more to come later this week since I’m out of town and scheduling ahead!  🙂

Product Highlight | Rhode Island Photography

Today I decided to highlight one of my favorite products.  These are my 8×8 and 10×10 coffee table albums.  If you don’t want to go all the way with a flushmount album (similar to a wedding album) for your family photos, but want to show off the photos from your session in one place, the coffee table album is the way to go!   It is a leather cover in your choice of several different colors and the photos are printed right onto the pages themselves.  You can do a photo that takes an entire page (called a full bleed) or have a designed layout with text and photos.  A light texture is applied to the pages (you can see in the top right photo) which gives it a really nice finish.  This is also a lay flat album which means exactly what it says – it will lay flat on the table when opened.  This is a great product and a phenomenal way to have all of the photos from your session!!

Ahhh, Pittsburgh.  The city of bridges, inclines, rivers and steel.  The city my father grew up in and the city that I have not yet lived in – even though this makes me the only granddaughter out of four to fail do so.  My nana and pappapp lived in the Swissvale section up through my junior year in high school so we spent quite a bit of time there.  My parents would get us out of bed at insane times in the middle of the night to drive down from Syracuse so as to avoid traffic.  We’d go down on school breaks, summer vacation and stay for about a week.  The house was always filled with the smell of pasta fagioli and pastina, which my nana made special for us (while using every available pot and pan in the kitchen 🙂 ).  We’d go to Kennywood amusement park and to the museums to see the dinosaurs.   And sometimes, if we timed it correctly, we would also have my aunt and uncle and two cousins down for a visit there.  Most Italian families are big – mine was the exception to the rule.  Only two children and four granddaughters.  So it was pretty special when we got to see them.  We also grew up far from each other.  Though in many families cousins see each other often, it would be maybe once a year that we saw ours.  So while we did see each other it wasn’t too often.

Time passed and we all grew up.  My sister ended up going to Pitt and both of my cousins moved there at various points, as did my aunt and uncle.  My older cousin, Melissa got married to a great guy (lovingly referred to as the Dutchman) and just about a year ago I found out that they were expecting their first child, a boy. Calvin James was born just over six months ago and from what I saw thanks to Facebook, was absolutely adorable.  When Melissa asked me a month or two ago who I would recommend for photos, I suggested that she fly me out instead and I would be glad to do them.  And to my absolute delight, she DID!  I arrived in Pittsburgh last Friday – the first time I had been there in over five years.  And thus began three awesome days with Mr. Calvin.  He was beyond adorable, the happiest baby I have ever seen and one of the cutest, too!  Since I had three days to shoot we did a morning shoot, an evening shoot, indoors, outdoors, clothed, nakey.  Lots of fun!!!  We also discovered this awesome rooftop garden at Carnegie Mellon with this fascinating sculpture of a French Curve that has numbers all over it.  TOO cool.  There are lots of photos in this bunch (a mere, tiny fraction of all of them!), so sit back and enjoy meeting Mr. Calvin.  I sure did 🙂

What to Wear 3.24 | Rhode Island Family Photography

Recently I have really been drawn to the color combination of purple and yellow.  Now generally, either you can wear yellow or you can’t.  That’s pretty much it.  It looks just *okay* on me, but Layne wears it beautifully.  However, I can wear purple and accent it with yellow…or orange…or some other vibrant pop of color.   So these outfits could totally be changed up depending on what color looked good on you and what didn’t.  I started with the little girl’s outfit which I thought was just so adorable.  I could see this easily on any little girl between the ages of 3-7.  Then I went from there to pull other pieces.  For the father a nice plum colored long sleeved polo (or short sleeved depending on the weather) would also work well, as would a purple sweater with a yellow blouse underneath for mom.  Lots of different ways to play it!  (And a side note, I am addicted to the shoes on mom – SO cute.  Slingback flats but that doesn’t show here.)  The first three outfits are all Boden (yes, I know, it really is my favorite place for eye candy) then the boy’s pants are Gap and the shirt is Gymboree (on sale for only $12!!).  If you had another younger girl, there is also the gorgeous purple and yellow dress that I featured in THIS post on the top left, also Boden.
