I’ve been documenting the Q family’s big moments for years. Baby Caroline Rose is their fourth and last child to be born. I also photographed their maternity session when she was in her mama’s tummy. You can view that blog post at the link below!
The Q family contacted me when they were expecting their fourth and last baby. They wanted me to document their journey with a maternity and newborn session. I’ve known this kind family for years. I first met them when I photographed their first child’s newborn photos. They usually book one or two sessions a year – they are such a joy to work with!
When the M family contacted me to schedule another family session, I was thrilled at the chance to see them again! You see, I’ve worked with this sweet, fun-loving family since their oldest was a newborn. When you use the same photographer over the years as your children grow up, they become more comfortable at each session. These kiddos are no exception! They are so much fun and love to be silly during their family sessions.
Shoes.
Something so small and seemingly simple has the power to make or break a family photo. So let’s spend some time talking about them.
Let me begin by saying, it will not be the end of the world if your child or spouse will not wear what you want them to wear. It really, really won’t. So take everything I say with a grain of salt. BUT the shoes in your photos can absolutely change the feel of the images.
No photographer sets out to take photos of your feet. Unless you’re doing a beach session and you want sandy toes, it’s just not going to happen. But in a traditional mix of images, at least in my sessions, about 1/3-1/2 of the images will include feet in them! Shoes should not be the first thing that people see when they look at your photos. And your look that you will spend so much time putting together? It goes from head to toe!
In-Home Family Photography Session | West Greenwich Family Photographer
The C family contacted me wanting to schedule a family session at their home in West Greenwich. I love, love capturing families at their own home, especially when they have younger children. Kiddos tend to be more relaxed and are free to be themselves in their own space. I was over the moon excited to schedule and start planning their session with them!
The fun never stopped once I arrived to their cozy home. We spent two hours hanging out, and capturing them being an adorable family. They played the piano, snuggled, tickled and laughed together. The fun didn’t stop there! I documented them in their element playing video games and reading too! Then we took our adventure outside and picked blueberries in their backyard. Their children just loved being able to run and play outside. There was never a moment of feeling like we were at a formal portrait session with rules and posing.
If I could put a label on my ideal or favorite type of session, this IS IT! Even editing their images was such a joy! I grinned the entire drive home from their West Greenich family session and making their personal video of our time together. More families should consider an in-home family session to capture their real family with true emotions and love in their portraits.
