Sunny | Rhode Island Family Photography
I met up with the L family this past Sunday after we were rained out for our Saturday session. They showed me a *beautiful* new location, Chase Farm over in Lincoln. Only about 20 minutes from my house and I had NO CLUE it existed. (Clearly I need to get out more in my own little state.) It was a gorgeous bright sunny morning and mom had done a great job with the outfits using one pop of bright sunny color with neutrals. We had fun wandering all over the park with their two adorable sons. There was lots of discussion of Lego Ninjago, silly faces and some silly songs and jumping on my part. Most of all though, we got some amazing family images. I love when clients tell me they want family shots – it’s a true passion of mine to get these images. Pictures of just the kids are always great but the moments together, those are awesome. Normally for my sneak peek I show favorite images. Today I am sharing five images from their session that make me smile every time I see them. 🙂 You cannot look at these and NOT smile!

Sometimes, we become friends with our clients. It happens. Sometimes you just click with them when you first meet them and the relationship takes off from there. Sometimes they are already known to you through other sources so it makes the clicking easier. But I love when it does happen. It brings something deeper to your photos with them. They aren’t just your clients anymore, they are people you have a relationship with. In some ways, that is TERRIFYING!! What if you mess up? What if you do a bad job? What if your photos aren’t as good as they were the time before? Heart palpitations I tell you. But most of the time, it is very relaxing and enjoyable. Driving to a session where I already know them I am not keyed up. I don’t have to play “Bleed It Out” by Linkin Park in the car to get me going (really, I do that 😉 ) because I know if nothing else I am going to have a great, relaxed time with them while shooting. Liz and Sean are those people. Their first session was a little over two years ago for their first son, Jackson. Then a year later, we did a family session when Jackson turned one. (seen HERE) And this time? It was to welcome in baby brother Max. After driving to Connecticut for their session, Max continued the wonderful tradition of his big brother by not making a peep the entire time I was there. It was a gorgeous day so we did the photos right in the enclosed breezeway (and needed no additional heat!) and then did family photos outside. I was in out and done in under two hours because Max slept the entire time. I think I saw his eyes once. It was so great to see them as their complete little family. Totally perfect 🙂
Garden Family | Rhode Island Family Photography
When S contacted me to do photos of her children in her cousin’s garden, I admit, I pictured taking photos in someone’s backyard. I loved the idea of family photos in somewhere special to them but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. In a separate email a few days later, she sent me the link to the “garden.” Um, yeah. This was no backyard. Started about 40 years ago, this has transformed from a cottage garden to rooms of gardens – I believe over an acre! When I got to the site on Saturday evening, my jaw literally dropped at how stunning it was. And the family I was shooting to go along with the gardens? Adorable!! With a four and a two year old it was the perfect place for family photos! The kids (and parents!) were just wonderful and did such a great job throughout. We explored all over and got so many wonderful images with amazing backgrounds. I normally share at least one black and white image in my sneak peeks, but I simply adore all of the color in these photos. 🙂 Enjoy your sneak peek, guys!!
For those curious about the garden or for gardeners out there wanting more information, their website is www.sakonnetgarden.com. They are having their first open house on June 2 so if you are in the Little Compton area, definitely stop by, it is really something to behold!! Please realize however, that this is a private property not open to the public normally.
Memories | Rhode Island Family Photography
When we moved to Rhode Island three years ago this June, the W. family was the very first shoot that I did. I had come up two weekends prior to moving but they were my first as-a-resident shoot. I remember very vividly that at our first shoot, my camera stopped working and i didn’t have my backup and I was *mortified*. But they rolled with it, we met up again a week or so later and I had such a fun time. If you’ve followed me for long enough, you might remember their shoot (seen HERE) If you don’t, (re)meet the W family. They are getting set to move to a new place in a different part of town and mom wanted to get some quick shots of the family just being a family there – some memories especially for big sister C who is having (understandably) a slightly harder time leaving the place she has known and loved. Both of the children were home births as well so it’s a bit bittersweet for everyone to be leaving, literally, the home the children were born in. We spent about an hour on Saturday morning getting some quick images of them all over the house in some favorite spots. I love these. And I am SO excited to see the new house and their next chapter!
