I Dare You | Rhode Island Family Photography

I dare you not to smile when you see these adorable kiddos – especially the baby.  I just double dog dare you!!!  Continuing my awesome Sunday was a stop down the street with this family for a quick holiday session.  (And I assure you mom, I have a few different shots of all three but didn’t want to share them on here since it’s holiday card time!)  Again, total strangers welcoming me in and making me feel completely at home.  Of course it could be the fact that I am a giant four year old so I get along really well with little kids.  Or the fact that Dad and I are both Steelers fans so it was already in their blood to like me.  😉  Whatever it was, it was fabulous.  Another gorgeous family, more gorgeous kids and lots of laughter.  🙂

I know I say it a lot.  But I really absolutely just adore my job.

Laughter | Rhode Island Family Photography

Continuing my good for the soul that I wrote about this morning…we have also heard that laughter is good for the soul.  If so then I am in luck because boy did I do a lot of laughing yesterday!!  It is so nice to be welcomed into someone’s house and be made to feel like part of the family.  I often leave sessions trying to figure out how I can arrange a marriage play date between their children and my own and wondering if the moms would think I was nuts if I came and just hung out with them and had coffee.  My clients are that awesome and that much fun.

When mom and I planned this first (of my three!) sessions yesterday morning, she mentioned that she really just wanted to capture the girls having fun and them being a family.  Now there are people that say that but mean they want perfectly posed, contrived photos.  Not this family.  They wanted real honest fun photos.  That doesn’t mean we didn’t set them up (jump, girls!) but it was very much a capture of who they are, every day of their lives.  Totally in their element, totally, awesomely them.   I am keeping it all black and white today since they mentioned they love black and white photos.  R. family, it was great meeting you guys – enjoy!!!

Good for the Soul | Rhode Island Family Photography

Every once in a while in the middle of a super stressful time such as holiday season, I need a refreshing.  A cleansing of my spirits, my (photographer) soul, my memory cards.  So I shoot for friends.  I tell them ask them nicely when we are doing sessions and then I drag them out in the cold and shoot for them and for me.  It is something I love to do.  It is something they love that I do, too.  (Or at least I am pretty sure – no one has strenuously objected so far!  😉 )  And I love when it is good friends that I can shoot with.  Especially when I have been there since the beginning – through the maternity, and the newborn, and the six month phase.  It’s special to me to watch them grow as a family, and even more special to get to document it with my camera.

This past weekend meeting me in the Downcity area on a brisk Saturday morning was one of these good friends.  Miss L. has grown from a beautiful baby bump into an adorable toddler.  She did absolutely awesome running all over the financial district and the cold didn’t seem to bother her one little bit.  Could have been the awesome Boden warm jumper or the gorgeous sweater and hat that her grandma knit for her.  Or just the excitement of being outside and being allowed to run through empty alleys and stand (with her parents) in the middle of deserted streets.  (Note to clients:  downtown areas are perfect on Saturday and Sunday mornings – there is no one around!)   It was clearly good for her, and good for my soul as well.  😀

Today, on Thanksgiving I am so thankful for so many different things.  My husband, my kids, my family, my job, my friends, my clients.  So what could be more appropriate than to share a sneak peek from a session with one of those friends?  I first met Allison last year after we moved here and we formed one of those weird and wonderful instant friendships.  Where you just meet a person and immediately you click.  I ended up shooting her maternity and newborn sessions last winter:

And even though we haven’t gotten together as often as we have wanted, this fall of course, I was going to pester them into doing family photos as well.  Little miss Paige has grown into quite the beautiful 10 month old and mom and dad?  Well, just as gorgeous as ever.  Although she was cutting several teeth during our session and not her normal super smiley self, I still thought the session was perfect.  Sometimes, you just capture who they are, as they are in that moment.  🙂  Teething and all.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with the friends and family that mean the most to you 🙂

Simply adorable.  That is all I can really say about baby A. who came to visit me for some photos last Saturday.  Six months old and an absolute DELIGHT.  Seriously, I was telling her mom that I keep smiling when editing these pictures because I see that gummy happy crinkled up grinning face staring back at me from the screen.  Six to eight months is just about the best age EVER to photograph, outside of newborns.  They can sometimes sit and unless they are sick or cutting teeth are freaking adorably perfect.  Babies at that age love you, they love the camera, they love their family.  They love silly noises, dancing, everything.  And they give the best smiles and baby giggles.  You get the picture.  Saturday morning was filled with a whole bunch of that from this tiny brown-eyed beauty.  We had a fun time traipsing around World War I Memorial Park in Attleboro even Gracie the little family pug came along.  Normally I don’t show family images in case people are keeping them as a surprise for family at holidays but I do so love the one that I am showing here.  And besides it’s not the *whole* family because Gracie isn’t in it. Right??  😉  M. family it was awesome to finally meet you – enjoy!
