Fathers | Rhode Island Family Photography

They love us from the moment we are born.  They are the ones who will hold our hands when we start walking, hold our bikes when we start riding and (usually) hold the keys to the car when we want to drive.  They can be wrapped around our little fingers (especially the girls).  They give magical healing kisses and big bear hugs.  Dads are wonderful, awesome, fun people.   And while they are usually the most difficult to convince to be in photos, a picture of a dad with his child can make me (and most people) melt.  Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful dads out there in my life and that I have photographed.

Last year I ran a contest asking people to tell me WHY photography was important to them.  The winning response came from Elaina O and it was absolutely wonderful and sweet.  I won’t share what she wrote specifically because it was personal (as so many things are) but it expressed so clearly why photography was so, so important to them.  This past Saturday, six months later, we finally got together for her family session.  We met up at Borderland Park in Easton which is one of my favorite locations to shoot in.  Though J. (age 6) warmed up to me pretty quickly, P. (age 2) took a little bit longer but I got some adorable looks from both of them by the time we were done  :).  All it took was singing lots of songs, bringing out the Elmo voice, looking at rocks, finding caterpillars, and paying on a tennis court among other things. E. and S. it was great meeting you and hanging out with the boys for the morning!  Hope they enjoyed their dunkin donuts!!

Well, they say the third time is the charm.  Sometimes it’s the fifth or sixth.  Adorable little Sophie was the winner in my nursery contest wayyyy back in March.  But due to weather, illness, weather, miscommunication and weather again, we had to keep rescheduling.  So finally, on Tuesday I got out there to do their session.  We had such a great time – Sophie is absolutely adorable!!  At ten months old (today, actually) she was just at the point where she could stand on her own but wasn’t really into taking steps yet which makes for some fun shots!  We stayed in the nursery for a while and then after a quick outfit change headed outside for additional shots.  I had such a great time shooting her – the expressions she gave were just priceless and so classic-ly ten months old.  Perfectly adorable!!!

Five Days New | Rhode Island Newborn Photography

A few months ago I was contacted by J. to photograph her newborn whenever he or she decided to arrive.  I was excited because she listed one of my absolute favorite clients as how she heard about me.  Then last week I got the email that baby L. had arrived a few days early so I set out to photograph her last week.  At all of five days old she was just about perfect.   And so were mom and dad (mom looked absolutely FAB).  One of those really sweet, fun couples and families who I love to photograph.  Although it took L. a while to settle down we got some beautiful awake shots with her and then some sleepy ones as well.  I was also able to get some shots that I just absolutely adore with mom and dad.  Sometimes, it’s actually nice to have an awake newborn – as long as I have a willing mom and dad.  😉  (And I get extra snuggle time with them to get them calmed down too, score!)

Not only was her family very cool, L’s nursery was absolutely beautiful with very special and personal touches and unique furniture.  On a second visit a few days later, I got a few extra shots in there as well.  One of the things I always tell people is that if they have something special or sentimental, have it on hand and we will try to get it in the photos.  J. had the baptismal gown from her great great grandmother hanging in the room, so we had to include it in a picture.  It was just a stunning gown and such a special thing to have – I wish I had something similar for my children.

J. and T. thanks so much for having me over (and back again).  L. is just absolutely precious – enjoy her!!

I have several more newborns coming up so if you want baby fever, I’ve got it!  🙂
