The End of Philly | Philadelphia Family Photography

After a weekend much needed to relax and catch up on work and family, I am back at it!

I ended my weekend in Philly with one of my closest friends in photography – the lovely Bernadette Uzcategui of BU Photography.  You have seen her and her family on here a few times now.  Her son is just absolutely darling and I adore him with all my heart.  He adores me equally.  Although he likes to call me Jamie.  I forgive him for that though.

I love shooting Bernadette and her family because, well for one the pressure is off.  And I get to have more fun and be more liberal in my editing.  But mainly it’s because there is just so much love there.  I have told them before that the two of them (she and her husband) have this closeness that not many couples have.  Remember when you were first in love, when you first got engaged or when you were newlyweds?  Remember the feeling you would get when you caught each other’s eye or touched each other’s hand?  These guys still have it after 11 years (it’s either 11 or 13 I am blanking at the moment) of being together and 6 years of marriage.  There is a love they feel for each other, a closeness and silliness and intimate relationship, you just see it when you watch them.  And to watch them with little E. (and their dog, Kia who has been with them forever) it becomes even more apparent and takes on whole new shades.  They are this perfect little nucleus of a family.  We should all be so lucky 🙂

I started my Sunday morning of my Philadelphia trip with this little sweetie:

C1

But that was a year ago – almost exactly a year to the day, actually!  See Mr. C now 🙂

C2

He and his mom and dad made the long drive from NJ down to the Mill for a photo session with me and I am so happy they did!  Once again, it was just great to reconnect with old clients and see how their little squishy newborn has grown.  And he has gotten so adorable cute.  The coloring, the outfit, the cheeks, everything just perfectly adorable 🙂

I love love love his face here.  It is just SO cute.  And so one year old.  And those cheeks – how can you resist them???  Not to mention that this gives a hint at how perfectly mom picked the outfits.  They were a walking What to Wear post – just perfect!

One more Philly session tomorrow and then it’s back to Providence (actually, Easton, MA) I go!

My last session for Saturday was the gorgeous H. family.  Seriously, they are just all pretty, pretty people.   I last saw them two years ago when A. and L. were three and one and now they have grown into these beautiful little girls.  All baby is gone 🙂  It was so great to see them again and reconnect with the family.  This time mom and dad even got into the action which made for some phenomenal shots.  The light was yummy, the clothes were bright and colorful, the girls were delightful, all in all a really really great last shoot.

By the way, the first two shots rank among my favorite shots.  EVER.  Seriously.  Some shots just make you smile – both of these just make me incredibly happy to look at.   In fact I dare you (triple dog dare you!  Christmas Story, anyone?) to look at the first and not crack a smile and to look at the second and not feel the motion, the light, everything.

I love this because it is TOTALLY sisters.  🙂

Isn’t mom beautiful??  Dad’s not so bad either but I wanted the concentration on mom here.

Thank you so, so much H. family.  It was great to see you again.  Keep those girls close – they’re going to be heartbreakers!!!

As I mentioned before, I realized while shooting these sessions that four of the six families had first come to me for newborn photos.  Little miss J. was one of them.  I had not seen her in 15 months when she was about two weeks old and she looked like this:

J1

And look at the beautiful little girl she has become!!!

J3

It was SO great to see her mom and dad and see what a cute little family they have become.  J. was walking all over the place and definitely gave me a run for my money with her moving but we managed to snag her quite a few times and got some beautiful images that I know mom and dad are going to LOVE when they see.

Now normally, I would put the black and white in between the color photos.  I am just picky like that in that I like to evenly alternate and distribute things as much as possible.  BUT the reason I did it this way is for the last photo.  Dad had J. standing there on that rock looking at the ducks while Mom went back to the diaper bag for something.  Before we knew it, J. had kicked off her shoe and sent it floating out into the pond!!  So I couldn’t help but capture the moment as dad laid flat out with the stick to get the shoe 😉  No shoes, ducks, dads or children were harmed in the making of this moment.  It just shows you, always be prepared for anything when doing a photo shoot!

More to come tomorrow!!

After being in the city Saturday morning, I headed out to my favorite location in the world, the Newlin Grist Mill.  It so happens that not one of my clients from this past weekend had ever had a shoot there.  So while it was old hat to me, it was brand new to them.   🙂  First up was the P. family.  They are the P. family of one of my favorite family shots EVER.  I have done A.’s newborn and six month shots and now that he is getting ready to turn a year old, I got to do them again.  It is SO much fun to watch kids grow up!!  In fact, out of the six sessions I had this weekend, I had done newborn shots for four of them!!  A. just continues to get cuter and cuter even though he wasn’t full of his normal huge smiles this time around.  But you’ll see he is still absolutely adorable!!!
