We are really lucky in our lives to have friends.  Truly great friends – even luckier still.  Every once in a while people meet and really hit it off and become the best kinds of friends.  That is the story with A. and T.  They are very good friends, but to add a special twist, their little ones, only two months apart are also very best buddies.  Unfortunately, T and her husband are set to start a new part of their life a few states away.  But before they moved, these friends wanted to do a photo shoot with each other and their kids so that they could have photographs to remember the time by.  I had previously photographed little M. when he was only eight months old to it was such fun to shoot him older and with his best friend- and definitely something different for me.  We met on the East Side and started with a very cool location and then worked our way up and down the hilly streets.  I got some moments that I am sure the moms will treasure and the kids will get to look back on and smile. 🙂  T. I hope you love your new city and enjoy your brand new chapter!!!

Last year I ran a contest asking people to tell me WHY photography was important to them.  The winning response came from Elaina O and it was absolutely wonderful and sweet.  I won’t share what she wrote specifically because it was personal (as so many things are) but it expressed so clearly why photography was so, so important to them.  This past Saturday, six months later, we finally got together for her family session.  We met up at Borderland Park in Easton which is one of my favorite locations to shoot in.  Though J. (age 6) warmed up to me pretty quickly, P. (age 2) took a little bit longer but I got some adorable looks from both of them by the time we were done  :).  All it took was singing lots of songs, bringing out the Elmo voice, looking at rocks, finding caterpillars, and paying on a tennis court among other things. E. and S. it was great meeting you and hanging out with the boys for the morning!  Hope they enjoyed their dunkin donuts!!

Okay, so if I had planned better I would have done this on actual DAYS rather than all in one post.  But between regular holiday craziness, extra sessions squeezed in and Layne’s upcoming birthday that just wasn’t going to happen.  So instead it’s all here together.  (A collective YAY!!)  And if I had been more accurate, it would have been the top 12.  But I just couldn’t cut it down.  So my top 13 favorite images from 2009.  This is not a countdown because I don’t think that I could narrow it down to an order, but these are my top choices 🙂

#13  Loved these boys.  Loved this image.  So, so sweet 🙂  (And as a side note, it got me a large editorial photo in The Baby Guide.  Can’t complain!!)

11

#12  Perfection all curled up.  The lighting, the cocoon, everything.

5

#11  This was taken during my shoot for my What to Wear guide.  But the moment and the light make it one of my absolute favorites.

14

#10  You know I’m all about the moments.  I love this one.  So much that I wanted to put my family’s faces on it and use it for MY holiday photo.

10

#9  How could I not pick this one?!?!!  The colors are what made this photo for me.  Not only a gorgeous baby belly but in a gorgeous surrounding.

4

#8  Pure happiness 🙂

12

#7  Pure love.  On both parts.

10

#6  I usually am not a fan of awake newborns.  But L. totally rocked it 😉  Love how adorable she looks here, like she’s checking out the world.

9

#5   This just makes me feel good.  Not only because it reminds me of my trip to the Outer Banks and my photog girls, but a family moment captured and in such a stunning location.

2

#4  I wonder when I see this if people think I put A into this pose.  It was a completely spontaneous moment and he happened to put his hand up as I was snapping the photo.  What resulted is one of my most favorite family moments.

11

#3  Do I really need to say anything?? 🙂

8

#2  More pure happiness!  W family made it twice!!!

13

#1  I want to keep a big giant print of this next to my desk.  So whenever I feel down in any way, I can look at it and smile.  Her look, her expression, everything just totally make this.

6

That’s it for this year.  I can’t WAIT for a whole new year to choose from!!!!!!

Five under Five | Massachusetts Family and Newborn Photography

Yep.  Five under five.  You read that right.  Five beautiful, adorable, huggable girls, all under five years old.   To be specific – five years old, three and a half, two years old and 10 days old!!!  I was so excited when K. contacted me to do their newborn session because I knew it was going to be a challenge.  I’ve done newborn twins and I’ve done families with three kids.  But I’ve never done a family with both.

You’d think with those ages and newborn twins that the house would be a wild crazy place but I got to their house and was immediately SO impressed with how smoothly and wonderfully it was “run.”  Run isn’t the right word but you know what I mean.  The big sisters were adorable, mom and dad were so relaxed and everyone was just so happy and so sweet.  And on top of it all, there was just SO much love in that house.  You could just see it in the way everyone interacted with each other, talked to each other and played together.  It was incredible!  (I also want to mention they have the best toy room.  Possibly EVER.)  In fact, I came home and told Matt that as a mom of five with two newborns K. had it much more pulled together than I do with just two!!   I had a really delightful time with all of them.  We sang lots of songs (Rudolph was a favorite) and the girls even offered to share their snack with me.  A great way to start my Friday morning!!  So without further ado, meet babies I. and J. and big sisters M., S., and A. in just a few of my favorites that I’ve edited so far!

Shhhh…she didn’t know I was taking the picture.  My favorite kind of shot.  True and honest moments of emotion. 😀
