When I was in Philly and shot Bernadette’s maternity session (seen HERE) a few weeks ago, I jokingly said that well, DUH of course I would do the newborn too.  Living several states away now, that is much more difficult than when we lived 30 minutes away from each other!  Fortunately, sweet little Lilia was a scheduled c-section which makes planning SO much easier, especially when it involves a six hour drive.  (And when it coincides with a trip to New York City that I am already scheduled for the day before, it’s perfection.)  I wrote to Bernadette three days before the session and told her I wanted more lifestyle with their session and less beanbag posing.  That is the wonderful thing about working with a friend.  You can tell them what you want to do.  😉  And when that friend is a photographer it’s even easier because usually they will agree wholeheartedly.  Which she did.  Which made my heart happy.  So this is a no-beanbag session.  I did everything naturally in their house with no setup used and got some of my favorite images ever from this session. Bernadette and Adrian are so in love with their little girl, and can we just talk about big brother for a minute???  I mean, SERIOUSLY.  Evan is so so in love with his little sister.  He just sits there and stares at her and touches and smiles and kisses her.  And his favorite thing about her?  “I like the way she smells”  ::melt::

Ideally, what you see right here, THIS is what I want to do.  This is how I want to shoot ALL of my newborns.  Capturing those first days in a client’s house, that is awesome.  There is really absolutely nothing like it in the world.   We spent a few hours in the house just getting photos of them being them with their new littlest love.  No complicated posing, no beanbags, no blankets and clamps.

And my heart was full and happy.Newborn girl on couch with yellow, purple and tealMother and newborn shot looking out of windowMother kissing newbornFamily newborn shotFamily newborn shot on bed, sage green wallsDaddy snuggling newborn baby girlMother and newborn shotMother on couch with newborn baby girl lifestyleMother on couch with newborn and siblingFamily shot on couch with newborn and dog lifestyle

I ended my run of three days of newborns with precious little Dylan.  He was perfect in just about every sense of the word from his skin to how well he slept to everything.  And mom and dad?  SO in love with their little guy which made me in love with this adorable cute little family of three (five when counting the gorgeous kitties).  As an added bonus, the weather was amazing so we got to do all family shots outside ::LOVE::   (And can I just say I adore the shot of Dylan with his dad down there?  I didn’t tell dad to do that, he did it all on his own.  Nose nuzzles!!)  This session was the perfect end to my week.  🙂Family newborn photo, south shore newborn photographyAwake newborn being held by dadNewborn and dad image, Bellingham newborn photographynewborn in a basket outside

Meet sweet, beautiful Lucey Rose (we did her mommy’s maternity session HERE).  Lucey was not crazy about sleeping for me.  It happens in newborn sessions.  Usually they are either sleepy and don’t wake up at all or they are very awake and don’t want to sleep at all.  I think Lucey didn’t want to miss a single moment of her first photo shoot  🙂  and really, that was okay!  I adore being able to get wide open eye shots.  Plus, family interaction shots with an awake baby are beautiful and extra special when you get that eye contact with mom and dad and those natural reactions to an awake baby.  ::love::  Now, she did sleep for a little bit after lots of snuggling and shushing and white noise which made me happy because I was able to capture her *amazing* eyelashes and get a few curly positions out of her.  It really was the best of both worlds!!

Sometimes, we become friends with our clients.  It happens.  Sometimes you just click with them when you first meet them and the relationship takes off from there.  Sometimes they are already known to you through other sources so it makes the clicking easier.  But I love when it does happen.  It brings something deeper to your photos with them.  They aren’t just your clients anymore, they are people you have a relationship with.  In some ways, that is TERRIFYING!!  What if you mess up?  What if you do a bad job?  What if your photos aren’t as good as they were the time before?  Heart palpitations I tell you.  But most of the time, it is very relaxing and enjoyable.  Driving to a session where I already know them I am not keyed up.  I don’t have to play “Bleed It Out” by Linkin Park in the car to get me going (really, I do that 😉 ) because I know if nothing else I am going to have a great, relaxed time with them while shooting.    Liz and Sean are those people.  Their first session was a little over two years ago for their first son, Jackson.  Then a year later, we did a family session when Jackson turned one.  (seen HERE) And this time?  It was to welcome in baby brother Max.  After driving to Connecticut for their session, Max continued the wonderful tradition of his big brother by not making a peep the entire time I was there.  It was a gorgeous day so we did the photos right in the enclosed breezeway (and needed no additional heat!) and then did family photos outside.  I was in out and done in under two hours because Max slept the entire time.  I think I saw his eyes once.   It was so great to see them as their complete little family. Totally perfect  🙂Massachusetts newborn photography, sibling shot with newbornConnecticut newborn photography, image of mother and newbornConnecticut family photographyConnecticut family photography, image of mom dad and babyNewborn boy on green blanketbrother newborn shot, massachusetts newborn photographyNewborn baby feet, Foxboro Newborn photographySleeping baby on grey blanket, Foxboro newborn photographyNewborn baby hand image, Easton newborn photography
