This past Thursday I got to photograph one of the tiniest babies I have ever had.  Weighing in at just over five pounds, Eva was absolutely beautiful.  Delicate features and long fingers and toes, she was just perfection in a teeeeeny tiny package.  We got some wonderful family shots before moving onto some shots of just her.  She did great for the entire shoot, not making a peep, just staring at mom and dad and sleeping beautifully. It has been a long holiday weekend and I am off to three newborn sessions in three days starting right now, so I will leave this sneak peek at just that and let mom and dad (and their wonderful gift giver!) enjoy 🙂

I love meeting new families when I go to newborn sessions – and I don’t mean new clients, but rather new *families*.  It is one thing when you get married because you become an official “couple”.  But when you have your first baby, when you bring that little tiny being home with you, you have all of a sudden magically transformed from a couple into a family.   It’s especially awesome when I am chatting with the parents and I find out something like I did about baby G’s mom and dad – they’ve been together since mom was a freshman in high school!  It gets me all sappy emotional and happy inside when I meet couples like them because it’s REALLY a special turning point to grow from two to three after all those years.  Now I had already been looking forward to baby G’s birth for quite a while before he got here.  The reason?  He was a surprise gender baby!  I so rarely have that nowadays, it was really something different to wait for the excited email from my client, not only to tell me they had had the baby but whether it was a boy or a girl!  In this case it was a gorgeous, healthy baby boy.   So off I went for his newborn session this past Wednesday and oh what a great time I had!   Not only did I absolutely adore mom and dad (SO fun and those personalities you just click with within five minutes) but at ten days old, baby G was an amazing little sleeper and did a great job throughout.   A few personal favorite notes about these – newborn hands are difficult to shoot because they usually like to keep them in fists and close to their heads.  But in this session I got one of my favorite hand shots EVER.  And then the last shot — we did a photo with big fur brother and sister Brody and Daisy – Daisy was totally listening to her owners and holding the pose.  But Brody wanted some extra kisses while he was near the new baby and I kinda love it.  😉  

Mom and dad it was so great to finally meet you guys!   G is just adorable and perfect.  🙂

“We love his hair!  Here’s a brush for you to use to make it all spiky and fun!”  And that was the moment I knew I would love them.  Actually, that’s kind of a lie.  I knew I would love them the moment I got the first very excited, very enthusiastic email.   Generally you can tell a lot from the tone of an email.  And I could tell right from the first contact that Franklin and his moms were very excited for photos.  (Okay, probably not Franklin since he was only 11 days old but you get my meaning.)  So after discussing a few different dates since their little guy was already here, I packed up and headed up into Massachusetts for his newborn session this past Wednesday.  He was an absolute doll to photograph weighing in just under ten pounds with awesome hair (two babies in a row!) and a great sleeper.  Even though both A & M said they wanted it to be more about the baby than them, they did jump in a few photos with their little guy.  AND as a result I got what is, to date, one of my top three favorite photos EVER – though I am not sure they even knew I was shooting. And that is what makes it so good – that raw, honest emotion and tenderness.  ::melt::  So, meet Franklin!

A&M you already know how I feel about you guys so I’ll just say again, enjoy him and enjoy this time 🙂
