Sweet baby Q. | Rhode Island Newborn Photography

Monday of this week I got to go and photograph the adorable six day old Mr. Q.  When I got there, he was sleeping.  When I left he was almost sleeping.  He slept pretty much the entire time.  And when he did wake up to hang out with us for a bit, he was so relaxed and happy and calm it didn’t even bother me!  He was the perfect little subject – letting me move him, change hats, change blankets and never even making a peep.  He curled beautifully and was just such an easy, gorgeous little guy for me to photograph.  Loved him and loved this session!  (It didn’t hurt that his mom, K., and I got on like sisters pretty much from the get-go either.)  K. and M. it was great meeting you guys – enjoy him!!

Sometimes, my newborn families contact me way in advance.  I had one client call me at 12 weeks pregnant!  But not everyone does (I know I would have NEVER been that organized before getting into this business).  Sometimes I get a call and people say I just had a baby and I would love for you to come and take pictures.  At that point, I drop everything I am doing and get over there as soon as I can.  Because I know that the time is flying, the baby is changing and I have only a fleeting period in which to get those precious, precious shots.  (Okay, that is kind of extreme – I have gotten those shots with a five week old.  But you know what I mean and man was that five weeker a tough nut to crack!!)

Gorgeous new mama M. was one of those phone calls.  She got in touch with me when T. was a little over a week old and we coordinated to get me there just in time for him to turn 12 days.  And let me tell you, I normally like them young (4-7 days), but 12 days is kind of great as well I’ve discovered.  He slept like a dream and was just such an easy baby to work with!  We had a great time sweltering while he was perfectly content to be warm and cozy.  Even Cassie, the first “baby” in the family got to get in on a photo.   For a brand new mommy, I kept telling M how amazing she looked and you can see for yourself in the photo below – so happy, relaxed and just glowing.  We got to use some of the different beautiful places in their house as well as more traditional shots on a blanket I have only ever used once or twice!  The photographer in me was very happy 🙂  And when I saw the shots that I got on my monitor, I was even happier.

M. it was FANTASTIC meeting you.  I had such a great time with you and little T.  You and S. give him lots of snuggles and kisses and enjoy this time with him!!!

Five Days New | Rhode Island Newborn Photography

A few months ago I was contacted by J. to photograph her newborn whenever he or she decided to arrive.  I was excited because she listed one of my absolute favorite clients as how she heard about me.  Then last week I got the email that baby L. had arrived a few days early so I set out to photograph her last week.  At all of five days old she was just about perfect.   And so were mom and dad (mom looked absolutely FAB).  One of those really sweet, fun couples and families who I love to photograph.  Although it took L. a while to settle down we got some beautiful awake shots with her and then some sleepy ones as well.  I was also able to get some shots that I just absolutely adore with mom and dad.  Sometimes, it’s actually nice to have an awake newborn – as long as I have a willing mom and dad.  😉  (And I get extra snuggle time with them to get them calmed down too, score!)

Not only was her family very cool, L’s nursery was absolutely beautiful with very special and personal touches and unique furniture.  On a second visit a few days later, I got a few extra shots in there as well.  One of the things I always tell people is that if they have something special or sentimental, have it on hand and we will try to get it in the photos.  J. had the baptismal gown from her great great grandmother hanging in the room, so we had to include it in a picture.  It was just a stunning gown and such a special thing to have – I wish I had something similar for my children.

J. and T. thanks so much for having me over (and back again).  L. is just absolutely precious – enjoy her!!

I have several more newborns coming up so if you want baby fever, I’ve got it!  🙂

You never know who are you going to take pictures for when you start a photography business.  You have no idea who will come into your life for the first time, or who will come back from your past.  I love this aspect of my job, just absolutely love it.  I meet so many new people and make new friends.  I see old friends in new lights.  And sometimes I reconnect with people from a distant past in ways I would never have expected.  Such was the case with Liz and Sean.  Liz was Matt’s first true love when they were both at UConn.  But as most college romances go, they went their separate ways and they grew up and fell in love with other people and got married (yay for me! 😉 ).  And then years later, Sean called me up to do some newborn photos for his wife as a gift from him.  🙂  Turns out, thanks to Facebook, she had found my work through Matt and was a big fan.  So last Thursday, I packed up my car and went off to Connecticut for their newborn session with seven day old baby J.

Now you would think that it might be uncomfortable, but it wasn’t in the slightest bit.  Liz was as sweet (and completely gorgeous) as I remember from the first time I met her and Sean was just awesome.  (I have tried to think of different words for him, but cool and awesome are the only ones that seem to come to mind.  Just a really great guy.)  I had a wonderful time with them and J. was just about as perfect as perfect can be.  And for the second day in a row, I had a newborn that was 100% perfect.  I put on hats, I took off hats.  I turned him, lifted him, moved him, he never made a peep.  And when he did wake up, he was the most relaxed, happiest baby I think I have ever possibly seen.  He would peek his eyes open, take a look around and give this half smile and snuggle in.  (I think it was my new blanket – maybe it’s even more comfortable than it looks!)  He even let me take him outside.  While we waited with baited breath for him to wail away and I snapped quickly, he was perfectly content.  So I finally got some outdoor newborn shots, including one of my favorite newborn family shots.  EVER.  You can just see in the family shot how much Liz and Sean absolutely adore their new little boy and what a perfect little family they make together.

So Liz and Sean, it was so great to see (and meet) you.  I hope it was everything you wanted it to be, I know it was for me 🙂  Enjoy your sneak peek!
