Gone to Carolina | Rhode Island Family Photography

I don’t know about you but I love the James Taylor song.  Love it.

So as you know if you follow me at all we spent a glorious week in North Carolina two weeks ago for vacation.  You might also know that we lived in North Carolina for four years while Matt was doing his residency at Wake Forest University and absolutely loved it.  There is the possibility that we might move back once we are all done here in Rhode Island, but that is still a ways off.  (However that doesn’t stop me from looking at real estate there.  Trust me, don’t look at real estate there, it will just depress you when you see what you can get for what you spent here.  Yeahhhh.  Just don’t do it.)  Anyways.  When we were there I was teaching Spanish at Page High School in Greensboro and I became super close with one of the Social Studies teachers, Nicole.  We hit it off immediately, which is good because I was a floating teacher, meaning I didn’t have my own room, and I was assigned her room as one of my classes.  At that point neither of us were engaged though we were with the men who would end up being our husbands.  We had many lunches, talks, get togethers, etc.

Now, nine years later, Nicole and James are married and have a five year old, an almost-two-year old and are expecting a third baby mid-June (which will necessitate another trip to NC yay!)  Whenever we do go back, which has been a few times now, we stay with them for our time there.  And it’s great!  Our kids play together, the guys golf, I get to talk to one of my best friends, it’s perfect.  So we did that for an entire week which was just heaven.  There were a few “firsts” this week as well – Nolan’s first movie in a theater (How To Train Your Dragon – boy’s trip), Layne’s first pigtails, Nolan’s first ice cream cone (I think)… I did some more “official” family photos of them but mostly we just had fun.  Here are a few of the shots from the week – mostly snapshots but a few nicer ones, too!  Enjoy 🙂

My two 🙂  Nolan’s first time riding his big boy bike (SO proud!!!) and Layne from this morning with one of her first pebbles and bam bam pigtail thingies.  Her hair is getting SO long in the front but of all the people in the world, Matt is the one that doesn’t want to cut it.  Go figure!  These are as close to snapshots as I come these days.  The photo of Nolan isn’t sharp but, as I stress in my class, sometimes it is more about capturing the moment.  His first time pedaling on his bike.  ::love::  (Make note of teddy along for the ride in the front pouch.  Very important.)

The Nursery Contest! | Rhode Island Baby Photography

Is your baby under two years of age?
Do you have a super cool nursery?
Would you be interested in winning a free session and mini-print package?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions, we would love to see pictures. What’s in it for you? A chance to win a free photography session featuring your baby and your nursery! We would like to see between 1-4 photographs of your space. At least one photograph must include your child in the nursery itself.  It doesn’t matter if you designed it or someone else did, as long as it’s yours and it’s cool!  We are looking for creative use of light, color and design elements. Images must be taken by you or someone in your family (we are really saying “please don’t submit images taken by another professional photographer.”)

All submissions must be received by midnight, February 28, 2010.

Entries will be judged by a panel of photographers who will narrow down the selection to up to 5 nurseries. The finalists will be posted on participating photographer’s blogs and the winner will be chosen via a public voting poll. Voting will occur between March 7-March 13, 2010. There are specific rules around voting that will be clarified during the voting round of the contest.

Winners will be announced on March 15, 2010. There will be 2nd & 3rd place prizes also awarded. Winning session must take place between March 22 – April 25. Winners must sign a release to allow participating photographers to display images on blog, website, Facebook Business Page and any other print or web materials as deemed appropriate.

So I have been doing Mine on Monday.  But today something different – me!!  I always joke that I became a photographer to never ever have my picture taken because no matter what people had said, I have never liked pictures of myself.  But with a new haircut and feeling pretty good, I set out to have some taken of me this morning.  I set the settings and handed it off to Matt and as a result I ended up with photos I actually, gulp, LOVED.  So, ME on Monday 🙂  Enjoy it, it doesn’t happen too often 😉

Two posts in one day – I know, I know.  Amazing!!  🙂  I was working on my PowerPoint for the workshop this Saturday and Nolan was kind enough to let me take a few photos of him so that I could demonstrate some concepts.  While I was shooting, I got this and it just melted my heart.  ::love::  If you are coming Saturday, you’ll see this image again.  Just pretend you didn’t.

And FINALLY.  I have a photo of his unbelievable lashes.  I seriously want to put mascara on them just to *see* what it would look like.
