So no client work today, though that is coming.  As well as another episode of What to Wear.  And a Ten on Something.  Today, though, you get my Laynie-girl.  She has sprouted two more teeth (thank GOD that is over, she was pretty miserable and unbearable for such a cute little thing).  And she has started pulling up and cruising on everything.  She walks clear across the room, and quickly, if she is holding someone’s hands and will do laps with her push toy all by herself.  Have I mentioned she’s not even 11 months yet??  Her brother didn’t walk until 15 months so this is quite the change for us.

Anyways, back to the point.  I brought both of them out for some photos the other late afternoon.  My idea was to get Christmas card shots and gift shots.  My children apparently had other intentions for our time together, though I did get a few good ones.  This was my last shot of our 15 minute session.  Yes, you read that right – they gave me 15 whole minutes.  Really, Nolan gave me two, but she couldn’t move too well in the grass so she had to deal with me.  If you’ve been here before, you’ve seen her hair.  Her wild, crazy, untamed hair.  I discovered, however, that in the setting sun it takes on a whole new life.   I love this little chunkamunk cutie SO much. 😀  Crazy hair and all.

So as I mentioned yesterday in my Ten on Thursday post, I had spent some time the other morning with Amy Blau, publisher of The Baby Guide.  TBG is a yearly publication that goes out all over the New England area, targeting Boston, North & South Shore, Cape Cod & Islands and Rhode Island – over 70,000 copies.  I was convinced by a friend to buy advertising space in the magazine and I decided to take the plunge.  Amy graciously worked with me on getting everything ready and lots of friends had their input into the ad design.  I also, at the request of the magazine as they asked all photographers, submitted some photos that would be able to be used for editorial purposes.

To my wonderful surprise and delight, they chose one of my photos (my “famous” twins shot) to use for a large slot in the magazine on their photography article.  And I am also the first ad that appears in the photography section.  I know this probably makes me a big ol dork but I was so tickled that they chose my shot!! (Okay, to be totally fair, they chose one other big shot as well but that wasn’t mine so I don’t care about that one.)  So hopefully tons of families will see the magazine and rush to book me.  😉

I also, yes, took some photos of the magazine.  Keeping in mind that product photography is SO NOT my thing, enjoy the photos below!

I am off to Philadelphia in an hour or so.  Wish me luck that weather and traffic cooperate for me!!!  I’ll see you all back here on Monday with lots and lots and lots to show!

1. I leave for Philadelphia tomorrow for a whirlwind weekend of sessions and I can’t wait!! Five family sessions and a session for a very good friend. All in a little over 24 hours. And that’s on top of driving down Friday night and back Sunday night. I am going to be one SUPER tired lady come Monday morning!! BUT I will have plenty of photos to share 😉

2. Speaking of tired, since the time change both kids have decided that 5:50-6:00 is a FANTASTIC wake up time. Before the change, they had been waking up between 7 and 7:15. I cannot be the only person with this problem can I? Darned early morning light!

3. I cannot believe I am already this.close to the end of the year!! It has just flown by. Last session is my wedding on the 28th with possibly a maternity in the first week of December. Then that’s it!

4. You may have noticed password-protected slideshow posts on the blog. This is something new that I have implemented as part of your client experience. I am proud to announce that I have joined the modern day world and partnered with Animoto. Every client will now have a custom slideshow set to music to view before they get their full proofing gallery. It’s a great way to share your photos with family and friends all over! Down the road I also plan to include video in the slideshows if I can ever get my act together.  I’ve included a nice example at the end for my #10.  No, that’s NOT cheating.

5. I got to meet with the fabulous Amy Blau, publisher of The Baby Guide, yesterday for something that you’ll see tomorrow 😉 Let’s just say I am SUPER excited!

6. Have you started thinking about photos for next year?  It’s never too early.  I will be accepting bookings for January, February and March starting in a few weeks.  The winter and early spring are the perfect time for newborn sessions.  So if you are pregnant or know someone who is, definitely keep a newborn session in mind.  And remember that each booked referral gets you a $50 credit for use at a future session for yourself!

7.  I am looking into some new product offerings for the new year that I am very excited about.  A gorgeous, high end album and some beautiful new mounting options for wall displays.  Yum!!

8.  We are going to be cat owners once again after this weekend!  When we moved here (we rent due to the time constraints of Fellowship) we were told that we couldn’t bring the cats.  SO after much heartache and soul-searching we placed our one cat with a great family and placed our other cat with a foster family.  That foster family was unable to keep her and we found out recently after more discussion that we COULD, in fact, have her.  So I will be returning from Philadelphia with our one cat.  I am SO happy.  Now we are just hoping after four months, she remembers us.  And forgives us.  And isn’t too scared of the monster baby 😉

9.  Speaking of monster baby, she has progressed from scooting to flat out taking steps.  Granted, it’s with her push-toy but she did two whole laps around the downstairs without my help today.  I was right behind her but not helping. And tonight we were walking her back and forth between us and there was one pass where she took two or three steps on her own without holding onto anything.  I am, however, in denial of that.  I refuse to believe she can possibly be that big.  Nolan didn’t walk until 14 or 15 months.  She’s 10.  Oy!

10.  Okay, I lied.  The video is #11.   Shhhhh…don’t tell, but I have a new website in the making.  New design, bigger pictures and new music.  I am slowly building it up.  Can’t wait to show it to you!!!!

11. And last, but not least, the video. Check it out! I think it comes in at about 3 minutes long but it’s definitely fun and worth watching!  Oh and the words are not supposed to match up with the pictures, I just spaced them out in there among them 🙂

That’s all for today!

1.  I had a GREAT time in Philadelphia!!!  I hope you have gotten to see the photos I took of the two C. families – if not scroll down a bit and take a look.  SO much fun.  The ironic thing to me is that I have only ever shot one family that had three children.  Both of my Philly sessions were three children as is my session later this afternoon.  All of a sudden I am surrounded by sibling sets of three!!

2.  As we all know, Halloween is coming up this weekend.  Nolan has been very excited for this for a while now.  He has insisted on ending every conversation before bed or nap with “Happy Halloween!”  I don’t think he *quite* understands that it’s really just a one day thing.  He is going to be Bob the Builder this year and just loves his costume.  He has already gotten to wear it twice – at our neighborhood’s halloween parade and at school yesterday where they did a very cute parade around the block (okay, so parade is a bit of a strong word, they walked around the school…still..SO cute).  Here he is parading (yes he really is that pale poor boy has inherited my complexion):

And Layne and Matt watching him parade.  We were lucky enough that Matt is on vacation this week so we all got to go to the parade!

3.  I am taking suggestions for my What to Wear next week.  Any thoughts on colors, or family members?

4.  I have been an editing FIEND these past few days.  But I haven’t really had a choice because I have six sessions in seven days this week.  So I am already done with the sessions from this past weekend.  It’s been a few long, late nights and busy days but worth it to know that two are already done.

5.  And yeah, four sessions over the next four days.  Eeeek!  It’s going to be fun though so I can’t wait.  I love shooting and editing!!  I was telling my clients this weekend that I couldn’t do this as my job if I didn’t love it as much as I do.

6.  I am working on a post about how to recognize good photography for people looking for a photographer for the holidays or just in general.  Stay tuned!

7.  Have you guys seen the new iMacs that have come out?  I want THIS.  In 27″ size.  Don’t get me wrong I love my MacBookPro laptop but what can I say, I am being greedy in making my list of “things that I’d love to buy someday when I win the lotto.”

8.  I just bought this fabulous AmyKathryn Marigold Magenta bag and I can’t wait to get it!!  I got it at The Mini Social and with account credits from other people I paid a grand total of $6 (it’s worth $120). 😀  I didn’t used to really be a huge bag person until they were taken away from me with the arrival of children.  Gone was the chance to have a cute purse.  Instead for the past four and a half years I have been carrying various styles of ugly functional diaper bags.  So when the opportunity arises to get something that is cute, stylish AND functional I just cannot pass it up.  Especially when it’s on sale and I have a credit.  And bonus – I can stick my camera in it!  Extra bonus – it’s completely animal-friendly materials!Picture 1

9.  One more shot from this past weekend.  I adore everything about this photo…

C7

10.  I am thinking seriously about making Philly Sessions a monthly thing.  Just one weekend a month with only two or three slots open per weekend to get in sessions.  Thinking, thinking, thinking…

11.  Holiday cards are finally all set up to see!  If you’re interested in looking at my offerings for this year let me know and I will give you the information to view them.

12.  Only eight short weeks until Christmas!!  If you’re stuck for a present for someone, gift cards for a portrait session make a GREAT present!  Whether it’s from me or from a photographer in your area, it’s a wonderful and thoughtful gift.

13.  I’m going to VEGAS!!  I don’t think I mentioned this yet.  I will be attending the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Conference in early March with a whole bunch of other photographers that I know and a TON that I don’t. I am so excited as so many others have gone and raved about the experience.  I can’t wait!

That’s it for this week.  Four sessions in four days here I come.  I hope you all have a very safe and happy Halloween!!

Due to the weather this past weekend I have no more sessions to blog this week.  Boooo.  Ah well.  Instead I thought I would share five people/sites who inspire me instead.  Each of these people have served as an inspiration to me for so many different reasons.  Several of them I would like to be when I grow up.  😀  Others, I just adore their approach to their work.  If you like things like this, then you MUST check out Blogs of Photogs.

The Image is Found

Seriously, I love these people. Love.  I want to be BFFs with them.  Their work is amazing, their style is incredible and they just seem so FUN!  When I am asked who I would have photograph my wedding I choose them hands down.  I think I would have them photograph me changing my shoes.  Make sure to check out all of their work.  I am sure you will love them as much as I do.

Life In Motion

I have known Lyndsay for over three years now through an online community I am a member of.  Her work is amazing and her images just shine.  She also has the most beautiful birth photography I have ever seen.  She makes me want to photograph a birth.  (Not familiar with birth photography?  Check out her Birth site.  Stunning.)  Her blog is one of the most entertaining that I read and she does a fantastic job of combining her personal and business lives.

Tara Whitney

Tara is a phenomenal lifestyle photographer based out of Southern California.  Her work is (like the others) just gorgeous.  She captures moments which is, I think, why I love her.  She lives what I dream to do.

Bernadette Uzcategui

Okay so maybe this is cheating a bit.  Bernadette is already one of my BFF photography friends.  She and I worked in Philly together (well not together but you know what I mean).  She started shooting just animals but then worked her way into portraits and if there is such a thing as raw, pure, natural talent, she is it.  Her work is gorgeous, from her commercial work, to her pets to her little guy (who has been seen on THIS blog several times!!) she excels at all of it.  I have watched her grow and am so so proud of her. (And I am staying at her place my first weekend in Philly so yay again!!)

Little Moon Photography

Amber is, quite possibly, one of the best newborn photographers I have ever seen.  Ever.  Her style and work are just gorgeous.  She does older kids as well, but I feel that she truly shines with her newborns.  Warning, her site and blog will DEFINITELY give you baby fever! And she is super cool in real life as well as I have had the privilege of finding out 😀

That’s it for now.  Maybe later I’ll add some more!
