Snowy Maternity Photos in East Greenwich | Rhode Island Maternity Photography

Snow is something we are familiar with in Rhode Island, and there is something magical about a snowy maternity session! It wasn’t a lot that day, but the quiet, soft blanket of white, the crisp air, and the cozy feeling of being wrapped up warm—it’s a perfect backdrop for celebrating a growing family. And when you get to capture repeat clients? Even better. There’s a familiarity, a comfort, and a shared excitement that makes the session feel extra special.

This maternity session took place in the family’s own backyard in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Big sister brought such joy, laughing, and snuggling with mom and dad. Those moments—the little hands on the belly, curious glances, and quiet smiles—are exactly what make maternity sessions so meaningful.

Mom looked gorgeous in both a flowy long dress and a shorter one, and we kept the session playful and relaxed. Sometimes the best shots are the spontaneous ones: a twirl in the snow, a giggle at the camera, or a gentle kiss on mom’s cheek. I love capturing these moments—they’re real, personal, and completely reflective of your family.

Working with repeat clients is always such a treat. I get to see the growth of your family, the connections you’ve built, and the love that already exists. And having a big sister involved adds so much emotion to the session. The anticipation, the gentle protectiveness, and the excitement for the new baby are all there in each photo.

If you are thinking about a maternity session in winter, I always suggest cozy layers, warm shoes, and some patience with the little ones—but don’t worry, it’s worth it! The snow adds a magical, timeless element to the images that you’ll treasure for years to come.

North Kingstown Newborn Session

Anyone who follows my work knows that in-home newborn sessions are always some of my favorites. There’s just something about photographing a new baby in the space where life is actually happening—the nursery you worked so hard on, the couch where you’re soaking in newborn snuggles, and all the little in-between moments that make this time of life feel real.

Baby Archie’s newborn session took place in his family’s home in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and it was everything I love about in-home newborn photography. Calm, cozy, and fun. We moved at our own pace, taking breaks when needed and keeping things relaxed, which always leads to the most natural and meaningful images.

And then there was big sister!  Including siblings in a newborn session is always special, and she did such an amazing job. From gentle snuggles to curious glances at her brand-new baby brother, you could already see that bond forming. I always let siblings lead the way during sessions—there’s no forcing or posing perfection here.  She wasn’t sure at first what to think of me.  So we let her move at hew own pace, too, coming and going when she wanted and when she was ready.  And keeping things light and playful and a little bit silly (such as upside down kisses and tickles) made it so smooth and resulted in such fantastic moments.  Those genuine moments are what matter most, and they shine through in the photos every single time.

I know it can feel hard in those early postpartum days to think about newborn photos, but these images aren’t about being “camera ready.” They’re about connection. Holding your baby, watching your kids together, and remembering what this felt like—not just what it looked like.

Gorgeous Senior Beach Session at Second Beach

Senior beach photos are the thing to do when you’re growing up in Rhode Island.  I mean, we are the Ocean State after all.  Who wouldn’t want photos done at the beach??  It can be an ever changing look to the water and sky as the day goes on into sunset and beyond.  Sadly for me up here in my corner of the state it’s about an hour drive to get to those beaches but when someone asks, I go!!  It was no exception for Amanda’s senior session as we headed to Second Beach (also known as Sachuest) in Middletown.  Side note – everyone thinks it’s Newport, but it’s not!

We headed down about 90 mins before sunset and started up overlooking the beach first which is one of my favorite parts of going there.  It allows for COMPLETELY different looks and feels to the photos but all in the same location. Knowing that we’d have a few different “backdrops”, Amanda chose four different outfits for her photos.  She brought cute and comfy tops with jeans and sneakers, a casual dress, and then ended in a gorgeous satin cowl back dress for photos on the sand and in the water. That look from Abercrombie was definitely one of my favorites of the night BUT I also totally love jeans and sneakers because thats my own personal go to. And the outfits she chose were perfectly her.  And I think that is an important distinction to make – seniors need to wear outfits that are THEM.  My packages offer options from one to unlimited outfits and it’s so important that the outfits chosen reflect their style, their personality.  I know as the parent of two teens and one tween how much we want to dress them and have a say.  But the options they choose – it shines through in the images.  From their posture to their expression, it’s there.  I definitely lend a guiding hand in what will photograph best but the options presented are best when they have the say.

After being up top in the woods and on the rocks we headed down to the water because what is a senior beach session without the beach part??  I really wanted to do some dance images in the water since Amanda is an incredible dancer but I ran out of time.  Instead, however, we got not only beautiful sunset images and lighting but we ended up under moonlit skies?!?!  Please note that I cannot guarantee amazing moonlight and reflections in your session but IF I COULD I WOULD.  So much fun and so so pretty.  And yes, she did end up in the water at the end of the evening.  Take a look at some of my favorites from the session!

Fall Family Session Fun at Brown University

I first met the L family a few years ago and was so happy when they came back for a fall family photo session.  We started in their beautiful new home on the east side for some fun family photos in the living areas.  From the gorgeous blue wall in the office to the fun huge window seat in the playroom to even their stairs and a doorway.  We used a variety of places which is one of my favorite parts about shooting in clients’ homes. The images are truly unique to them!!

From there we headed over to the quad at Brown University  It was a beautiful day with some of the fall leaves dotting the grass and was so vibrant with students and people. But the nice part is because of the size we were able to do photos and make it feel like they had the whole place to themselves!  We played some silly games on the sidewalks and in the grass, we threw leaves, we ran around – all in all a pretty typical family session with me.  The bonus of fall family photos too – you’re much less likely to get sweaty and hot!!   So we can do all of those things and no one ends up red faced or shiny 🙂  The kids were adorable, the parents super in love with each other, and my favorite part – we got images that are going to bring them right back to this moment in time when they look at them, no matter how big or old those kids get.

Tiny Newborn Girl in Northern Rhode Island

I recently shared this couple’s maternity session here on the blog – now meet their beautiful newborn girl, Amira. At just 17 days old, she was pretty much perfect. Big beautiful dark eyes and these tiny delicate features.  I love doing newborn sessions on or after day 15.  At that point everyone has kind of settled into a routine and parents are usually a little more rested.  Plus if moms are nursing or pumping, milk supply has usually been established. And since fed babies are happy babies that is super important!   And Amira was super happy and cute.

Since I do photos in clients homes one of my favorite spots to use is the parents’ bedroom.  And Amira’s parents room was no exception.  They had a beautiful simple bed and walls that let the main characters (them!) shine. I have many prospective clients say “well I don’t have a magazine style bedroom or anything” and I always tell them if you have a bed, a wall, a window that’s really all I need.  And I’ll let you in on a little secret – the mess all goes behind me and out of the frame.  No matter whose house it is or what kind of people they are there is always chaos and mess!  You’ve just had a newborn!  So I just move it out of the way, set up where I am going to shoot, and continue on with the session.

We got the most beautiful photos of Amira and her parents during her session!  She gave us some good quiet alert time and also sleepy time which we all love.  🙂
