Amy and Missi | Rhode Island Photography

Every year I get a few requests for weddings.  I pretty much always turn them down because I do not consider myself to be a wedding photographer (nor do I want to be).  And to get me interested in one, it would have to be something very different or very special in some kind of a way.  Amy and Missi were just that.  They contacted me last August and asked if I shot weddings.  They explained that they were getting married on Cape Cod in September of 2012 and wanted to know if I would be interested in shooting the wedding because they loved my style of work.    Amy was the sister of a previous client so I already had some familiarity with the family, and Amy and Missi being able to get married is something that I hold very close to my heart.  I don’t get political on here (though if you knew me in real life you’d know I am very opinionated!) but I very very strongly believe that any two adults who are in love with each other should have the right to marry each other.  So off we went to plan their wedding photos!

The wedding took place two weeks ago starting in gorgeous Provincetown and then the ceremony and reception were held in the unbelievably beautiful Truro Vineyards.  Although the weather was iffy that morning it ended up being a stunning, sunny, warm Cape day with perfect weather for a wedding.  We started with a ride around the city to one location they had requested for some photos of just the two of them.  (I think this might have been my favorite part because it was just me and them, no one else.  Plus I got to shoot from a moving pedicab.  Pretty cool.)  After that we went back to their inn and hopped on a trolley with family to attempt some photos at Race Point Beach.  Unfortunately it was just *too* too bright for truly great photos but we did manage to get a few in.  Then it was off to the vineyard for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception.  While there were no traditional bridal parties or cake cutting, they had some wonderful special touches to their wedding, such as Amy’s father walking them both down the aisle, having their rings tied on a necklace around their daughter’s neck, a homemade cork (literally wine corks) board for notes, and the champagne flutes for everyone to join in a toast at the end of the ceremony.  So many things that made it special and truly them.  It was a wonderful day and I am so honored that I got to be a part of it.  🙂

Congratulations, Amy and Missi (and Simi!)

South Side American Little League.  That was where Tara and I first met.  We were, gosh, ten years old maybe?  Little young things learning to play softball.  Her dad was an ump, mine was occasionally as well (and I am pretty sure I got very mad at both of them more than once 😉 )   We ended up going to different lower schools but were in high school together and then went separate ways after high school ended.  Then, like so many other people these days, the wonderful world of Facebook connected us again a few years ago.  When my husband and I went down to Key West for vacation in January we hooked up again – the first time we had seen each other in many years!  While we were down there, Tara introduced us to Renzo – her fiance.  I mentioned off hand that I would totally shoot their wedding for them and a plan was born!

And what a wedding it was!!!  Tara and Renzo got married at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, where we are both originally from.  It was a day full of laughter, smiles and a few tears from an emotional bride and groom.  It included an elephant (in fact, the same one that I used to get ride on when I was a little girl visiting the zoo with my family!), wild and crazy dancing including the Cupid Shuffle and some hot Latin dancing, readings and blessings in both English and Spanish to honor both Tara’s family and Renzo’s family in from Peru and lots and lots and lots of laughing.  From Renzo walking in to “Somebody’s Getting Married” from the Muppets to the inventive first dance, it was an afternoon and evening to remember and the beginning of what I am sure is going to be a wonderful marriage.  🙂

Congratulations, Tara and Renzo, much love to you both!!!

What can I say about last weekend’s wedding?  How about stunning, perfect, amazing, wonderful?  Sean and Jessica had a dream wedding.  The lawn of the Commandant’s house in Boston.  Reception under a tent designed by the amazing Abby Gray of Olivia Browning in the theme of all things Boston marathon (perfect for two marathon runners!).  Gorgeous flowers.  Perfect Red Sox /  (not-as-perfect) Yankees cupcakes.  Awesome music.

Seriously a stunning, fabulous day.

Kristina and I were SO thrilled that they chose us to photograph their day.  We had so much fun with this wedding and meeting a whole new set of people and families.  We are so fortunate to do what we do and witness such incredibly personal, intimate and joyful moments.  And I have to say, seeing your super sweet, quiet, adorable, polite bride and groom turn into crazy dancing maniacs on the dance floor is also pretty cool 😉

There’s a lot.  Because I want there to be 🙂   Congratulations Jessica and Sean!!  I hope you had an amazing honeymoon!

(BTW one of my personal favorites along with the black and white of their first dance? Jessica’s parents giving her away.  The look on her mom’s face, the hand on her back…as a mom, I have some sense of the emotion that was there and I absolutely love it.)

I have always loved this quote and found it particularly appropriate for the wedding that I shot last weekend with Kristina (click HERE for her photos).  Monica and Todd first met when they were little and though Todd would move away, their families would remain connected and intertwined through friendship of older sisters.  And when Monica and Todd were reintroduced years later by those same sisters, the path that would eventually unite both families together forever began.  Through times of great joy and great sorrow, these two families have been joined.  And last Saturday, they became joined in a most official, delightful, beautiful and loving way.

It was a perfect, wonderful, amazing day.

There were laughs (lots), tears and a multitude of smiles.  And when the sun was setting over Boston and the light came streaming in through the windows of the roof deck at the Taj I believe a very special angel was looking down on these two and sending a whole bunch of love and blessings on their day and their new life together.

Monica and Todd I am so so happy for you two.  Enjoy each and every moment together.

I really am supposed to be blogging a wedding today.  But I just have so many images to pull together from it that I am passing it over for some shots from last night’s engagement session with the gorgeous Jessica and Sean instead.  Shhhhh.

After coming off of the amazing wedding on Saturday, I headed back up to Boston from Providence last night (I’ve been to Boston four times in the past three years – twice in the past three days – crazy!) to meet up with Kristina and do a walk through with Jessica and Sean.   Turns out that though they live in Boston, Jessica is from right here in RI – in fact it’s only about five minutes from where I am that she grew up.  (I say it over and over, New England is crazy small.)  We had gorgeous weather and of course had to take a few photos of them throughout the evening.  I discovered “that line of bricks” which turned out to be the Freedom Trail (history is not my strong suit) made for a delighful photo as did some other locations on the walk from their place to their wedding location.

It is going to be an AMAZING day, I can already tell.  Not only do we have gorgeous, adorable couple, but we have a stunning location.  Kristina and I have some ideas for photos that we can’t wait to do and I have a few shots of the groomsmen planned in my head so if we can all think good 75 degrees and sunny thoughts for August 21 I’d greatly appreciate it.  😉

Jessica and Sean it was wonderful to meet you last night – we are SO looking forward to your wedding!!

(Head over to Kristina’s blog for her perspective!)
