Rhode Island Family Photographer – Fall Family Field Fun

No matter what other weather we have here in New England, fall makes up for it every year. There is absolutely nothing like being a Rhode Island family photographer in the fall – the golden sun, the leaves, the weather. It is the perfect setting for photos. As a result, when you have a family photography session that falls on one of those perfect days, some magic happens. There simply isn’t another explanation. It’s just…magical.

Meeting up with the B family was one of those such days. Where everything just worked perfectly. We walked until we found the field I wanted. After that it was time to let that magic happen. I strongly believe it setting things up and then letting the action happen naturally. I might give some prompts or ideas, but it’s never strongly posed, as you will see. Letting families be natural and have fun makes for such beautiful images. They laughed, and did ring around the rosie, and ran through trails and just stopped everything for a small bit of time to be a family and to love on one another. The best.

Gorgeous Massachusetts Family Session

I headed up to Shrewsbury last week to do a family session for one of my favorite clients. I have known Corrie for a few years now, having done their newborn session for their first daughter a few years ago. (The only reason I didn’t do their second daughter was because she was born only three short weeks after my own second daughter!) We’ve done several sessions together since then, but this trip up was my first time meeting their youngest. She was SO stinking cute with her new little teeth!! We headed over to the Ward House to do the photos and it was such a fun choice! Gorgeous light, beautiful simple buildings and an open space for the kids to run around when they weren’t taking photos. We also lucked out with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL Spring day! We got some adorable, beautiful pictures of everyone involved to add to the Amy Ro wall that Corrie has in their living room. 😉 Here are a few of my favorites from their session. Enjoy! 🙂

Party of five holiday style

I have been photographing this family since their youngest was just an adorable, drooly, happy 3 month old. I look forward to our sessions *every* year because they simply get more and more adorable and fun to photograph. This year was certainly no exception. I could not believe how big they’d gotten and it was by far one of our most fun sessions to date. They were great troopers going all over the park and being super silly and giggly. Mom and dad were great as usual letting all of us do our thing and we definitely got some of my favorite photographs of them ever during this session!

Beautiful Fall Family

So now that the holidays are (long) over, and the cards and gifts have all been delivered I can share the images from some holiday sessions guilt and worry free 😉 I hadn’t seen this family in a little over two years – mom was pregnant during their last session with me! It was so great to see them again. The colors were amazing, the family was gorgeous, it was a great, great morning!

Newport Family Session

Newport. Oh you, beautiful, beautiful town. The most famous aspect of it, if you’re not familiar with it, are the Newport mansions. Driving down Bellevue Avenue looking at the houses and then taking Ocean Drive out around the water is truly one of the most breathtaking, awe-inspiring things you can do. Stunningly beautiful. That whole area of Rhode Island, in fact, is beautiful. So when my client contacted me and asked about doing a family session where they had their wedding photos done on the grounds of one of the Newport mansions, I was not going to say no. And I am so so glad I didn’t!!!! Heather had been following my work for a while and had recently moved to Rhode Island which made having a family session much easier to coordinate. Over Columbus Day weekend I headed down to Newport and we met up to do some photos on the grounds of The Waves where she and her husband had done their wedding photos 16 years prior. The owner of the property is an old family friend of Heather’s husband, who was so very, VERY gracious enough to let us use the property for photos once again and I cannot thank her enough. Heather and her family were AWESOME. Her kids are the same ages as mine almost, a 9 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. And just as outgoing and social as mine too, which was SO. Much. Fun. We discussed many important things like flag football, their dad’s hockey scars, their mom’s singing voice, and how much fun photo bombing can be when done at the right times 😉 As during any family session we did a bunch of different photos and one thing I loved is that mom brought along a nosegay made of yellow roses, like the one she carried the day of her wedding – I love the fact that we could incorporate that into the session with her daughter.
