Rhode Island Family Photographer – Fall Family Field Fun

No matter what other weather we have here in New England, fall makes up for it every year. There is absolutely nothing like being a Rhode Island family photographer in the fall – the golden sun, the leaves, the weather. It is the perfect setting for photos. As a result, when you have a family photography session that falls on one of those perfect days, some magic happens. There simply isn’t another explanation. It’s just…magical.

Meeting up with the B family was one of those such days. Where everything just worked perfectly. We walked until we found the field I wanted. After that it was time to let that magic happen. I strongly believe it setting things up and then letting the action happen naturally. I might give some prompts or ideas, but it’s never strongly posed, as you will see. Letting families be natural and have fun makes for such beautiful images. They laughed, and did ring around the rosie, and ran through trails and just stopped everything for a small bit of time to be a family and to love on one another. The best.

Newborn Photos Rhode Island | Baby Nora

Oh newborn photos. How much I absolutely love love love doing them. Without doubt, it’s my favorite type of session out of all that I offer. There is just something special about the sessions. It’s a brand new time in a family’s life that goes so quickly.

Mom contacted me after seeing one of my fusion videos that I make for my storyteller session clients. She said she absolutely needed to have that. They were welcoming their fourth child – and their first girl. Three adorable, loving big brothers, so excited to meet her 🙂

We started the session in the master bedroom where I really love to do my images. It’s comfortable and cozy and allows everyone to relax. What’s more it’s almost always easy to throw a blanket over everything and pile on! We did images of everyone together, as well as each sibling individually. It’s so important to me to provide that one on one time with new siblings during newborn photos. There is something really special about that new bond. Usually they don’t get alone time with the new baby so I love what I can capture there. I often even (if they’re old enough) kick mom and dad out while I work with them so the images are a complete surprise!

Later we headed outside as the weather was gorgeous that day. I always take the chance to do images outside if I can!! After that, we came back in and it was time for baby Nora to star in the show. We chose a gorgeous pink blanket and wraps that complimented her coloring in order to do beautiful simple baby images.

CAMERA BUYING GUIDE

One question I get asked more often than anything is “What kind of camera should I get for my kids / spouse?” So I thought I would put together a little something to help you in choosing a camera in your shopping. While I am a professional photographer, I am not a professional camera retailer so I am sure there will be something I miss somewhere! Forgive me 🙂

Now, please note. Just as a gorgeous set of all-clad pans and shun knives will not make me Julia Child, the best camera equipment in the world will not make anyone a fantastic photographer. Choosing a camera is just the start. Whoever is getting the camera MUST MUST MUST learn to use it!! And I don’t mean just reading the manual. But actually taking the time to learn what goes into photography. At the end I will provide some resources for further learning!

Providence Urban Family Photography

My second family photography session during my day of Urban Mini Shoots in downtown Providence is a family I’ve worked with a few times now. The first time was during mom’s maternity session with the younger sister, and then again at her newborn session and then last year for some family photography for holiday photos. I love when clients return over time and use me for their family photography sessions- it is such an honor to get to photograph them at different points and watch their families grow!!! This year our sessions was wonderful – we walked around a bit down by the Providence River and spent some time over at the railing with the city in the background. And again, I used the bridges. What can I say? I love bridges. I also have a family shot from this session that I LOVE but that will have to wait until after the holidays to share as I don’t have permission from mom yet 😉 S. & A. were delights to photograph and I fell in love with S’s wrinkly nose smile!! And big sister, well she is just growing and growing – such a beauty with those blue eyes <3 Even mom and dad got in on some solo shot action – yes, again I made them kiss. I love love LOVE the shot of them in black and white with the tall buildings behind them!! Side note – if you come to do family photography with me, be prepared to kiss everyone. I love kisses!! Gorgeous Downtown Providence Couples Session | Amy Ro Photography

Two weeks ago, Dan and Lorrie met me for a gorgeous couples session in Downtown Providence. Back in July I held a giveaway to celebrate my tenth wedding anniversary. I wanted to give a couples session away to one other couple also celebrating ten years of marriage this year – no kids, no family, just a married couple likely more than deserving of a few pictures of JUST THEM. I had a bunch of entrants for it – some funny, some sweet, all wonderful. In the end I literally ended up picking the winners out of a hat because I simply could not decide after narrowing it down to a handful of contenders!! And Dan and Lorrie were my winning couple. I honestly believe that I was meant to photograph them, and they even said something to that effect to me a few days afterwards. Parents of one (I am sure) adorable little girl, they had not been out on a date forever other than a recent short trip for their actual anniversary. Like so many others of us, they are caught up in the everyday of being parents and I think had probably forgotten a bit to still be husband and wife (It happens SO easily, doesn’t it – I know with three kids it sure does here!) So that Saturday night we spent about an hour together focusing on just them. Their relationship, their love for each other, their connection. I love love LOVE what we captured and hope they will as well. Here are a few sneak peeks from our session together – enjoy!
