The Nursery Contest! | Rhode Island Baby Photography

Is your baby under two years of age?
Do you have a super cool nursery?
Would you be interested in winning a free session and mini-print package?

If you answered yes to all three of these questions, we would love to see pictures. What’s in it for you? A chance to win a free photography session featuring your baby and your nursery! We would like to see between 1-4 photographs of your space. At least one photograph must include your child in the nursery itself.  It doesn’t matter if you designed it or someone else did, as long as it’s yours and it’s cool!  We are looking for creative use of light, color and design elements. Images must be taken by you or someone in your family (we are really saying “please don’t submit images taken by another professional photographer.”)

All submissions must be received by midnight, February 28, 2010.

Entries will be judged by a panel of photographers who will narrow down the selection to up to 5 nurseries. The finalists will be posted on participating photographer’s blogs and the winner will be chosen via a public voting poll. Voting will occur between March 7-March 13, 2010. There are specific rules around voting that will be clarified during the voting round of the contest.

Winners will be announced on March 15, 2010. There will be 2nd & 3rd place prizes also awarded. Winning session must take place between March 22 – April 25. Winners must sign a release to allow participating photographers to display images on blog, website, Facebook Business Page and any other print or web materials as deemed appropriate.

Me on Monday | Rhode Island Photography

So I have been doing Mine on Monday.  But today something different – me!!  I always joke that I became a photographer to never ever have my picture taken because no matter what people had said, I have never liked pictures of myself.  But with a new haircut and feeling pretty good, I set out to have some taken of me this morning.  I set the settings and handed it off to Matt and as a result I ended up with photos I actually, gulp, LOVED.  So, ME on Monday :)   Enjoy it, it doesn’t happen too often ;)

Mine on Monday | Rhode Island Family Photography

Two posts in one day – I know, I know.  Amazing!!  :)   I was working on my PowerPoint for the workshop this Saturday and Nolan was kind enough to let me take a few photos of him so that I could demonstrate some concepts.  While I was shooting, I got this and it just melted my heart.  ::love::  If you are coming Saturday, you’ll see this image again.  Just pretend you didn’t.

And FINALLY.  I have a photo of his unbelievable lashes.  I seriously want to put mascara on them just to *see* what it would look like.

Ten on Tuesday | Rhode Island Photography

1.  First and most obviously, welcome to my new blog design!!!  Yippee!!  I was so excited to discover that there was a new version of my blog design out there for me to buy.  Like I didn’t have enough of a list of things I wanted to purchase, someone had to inform me of THIS.  But I did it because oh my gosh, is it SO much cooler.  I mean I was happy with what i had before, but this, WOWZA.  Of course the parts of it I love the most you can’t see because it’s on the admin side, but trust me, it’s awesome.  Hopefully you all like it, too!  Take a while, look around, check out the tabs, the collapsible comments, etc.  And look for cool new features like the ability to do sneak peeks in a lightroom or slideshow format.  Lots of goodies.

2.  I might still have two spots in my Get Manual Workshop left so if you want in, just let me know!

3.  There are five days left to save up to $400 on your next session!!  See HERE for details.

4.  I just ordered nine canvases for my display at Bellani Maternity last night!  They should be in at the end of next week and then be up.  It took me FOREVER to decide what images to use but I am very happy with the way it turned out.  Some people will definitely recognize their pretty little faces in there.  ;)   I’ll definitely take a picture when they are all in and up.  Anyone want to come and help me hang them?

5.  One shot from my last newborn session that I loved but didn’t share here…I can rarely get this pose with a newborn but every once in a while (okay, this was my third time only) I get it.  Look at that precious little face!

6.  I admit it.  I have joined the ranks of snuggie owners and I am in LOVE.  I put it off for the longest time.  I made fun of it.  I made fun of people who had one.  But then I started talking to people and friends who had them and they said how great it was.  Where my desk is in my house I am right near a radiator but am right next to a window so there are many times I get chilly, especially because we try not to jack the heat up and save on bills.  So my wonderful husband ordered me an SU snuggie for Christmas and it arrived last week.  (Nolan immediately declared upon opening it that he wanted one too!)  It is wonderful.  It is warm and cozy and awesome to lay around in, especially when not feeling good.  And of course, it is an SU snuggie which makes it even more awesome.  Now I will NOT be going bar hopping in it as the commercial suggests (plus I can’t remember the last time I actually bar hopped??).  But I will be wearing it around the house.  And editing in it.  And if you come to the house to pick up an order, I can’t guarantee that I won’t be wearing it.  But I solemnly swear that I will not leave the house with it on.  ;)

7.  I selected my first three photographers for interviews and am SO excited to get them on here :)   They are some of my favorites.

8.  I’m working on some examples of bad photography for both my workshop as well as a post and let me tell you, it’s HARD to be bad!!  I keep intentionally doing things to photos and my brain is screaming at me to “fix” them!!  Makes it tough.

9.  I might have mentioned it, but I am having a looooong awaited date weekend with my husband this weekend.  The kids are off to CT to stay with the in-laws, we’re going to Boston Friday night for the Harry Potter exhibit (yes, we like it, if that makes us dorky so be it.), a spa day for me Saturday, have dinner reservations for Saturday, diner plans for breakfast Sunday, and (though it goes without saying) plans to SLEEP IN.  I have a session Friday morning but then I plan to do nothing.  Sorry folks, no posts.  I am disconnecting.  Can you really blame a girl though?

10.  Not to end on a serious note, but I wanted to touch on Haiti.  The devastation in Haiti has been overwhelming to see on TV.  I watched the 60 Minutes story on it the other night when my parents were in town and I almost didn’t make it through.  Some of the images and footage that they showed was just unbearable.  It breaks my heart to know that this is going on in the world.  So what have you done to help?  Have you donated to American Red Cross or Care.org?  We donated to the Red Cross (easiest way ever – text HAITI to 90999 and it will add $10 to your next cell phone bill).  Another very easy way – buy the Hope for Haiti Now CD off of iTunes.  I bought it the night they did the telethon, mainly just to have Justin Timberlake’s recording of Hallelujah but I have found it to be absolutely amazing, especially Stevie Wonder singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters (though I am a sucked for anything S&G).  And at only $7.99 you are supporting a great cause (100% of the proceeds go to relief efforts) and you get 23 amazing songs.  I am actually listening to it right now as I type this – which has been perfect for this super dreary and incredibly rainy day.  By the way – that telethon has already raised $58 million dollars and it’s still growing.  Isn’t it INCREDIBLE to see what can happen when people come together for a single cause?

That’s it for this week!  See you tomorrow :)

Mine on Monday | Rhode Island Family Photography

Well, as previously stated, I was a bit under the weather this past weekend.  I caught Layne’s cold and then woke up Saturday not feeling well with what turned out to be a mild case of pinkeye.  JOY.  So there went my two sessions for the weekend.  As a result, there will be no sneak peeks this week, just other random posts.  For today, Mine on Monday.  It’s been a while since I shared the kiddos…

First up is Nolan.  This is the perfect picture of him for two reasons.  First the legos.  Legos are HUGE in the house.  HUGE.  We started off with the big old duplo blocks and then progressed to the big legos and then last Christmas he received his first set of 480 teeeeeny tiny legos (Thanks, Uncle Nate).  Ever since then it has been lego land in our house.  This Christmas he got a giant crane from the uncles – he calls it the “Craner Crane”  As a result the lego interest has just grown.  He is forever building – cars, houses, etc.  He is slightly obsessed with them we think.  But he loves it.  And I have to admit that some of the stuff he builds is pretty cool.  The second reason this picture is perfect is that he is also equally obsessed with the Penguins of Madagascar which you can just slightly see on the shirt he is wearing.  Ever since being introduced to the movie Madagascar 2 at a friend’s house, he has fallen in love.  We watch the show, we DVR it, we talk about it.  And he has named his lego men after them – so on his lego car in the picture are Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico.  And he remembers who they are from day to day – not like he makes up new names for the men each day…  This picture just captures everything about him at this moment in time.  Now if only I could have put some pbj sandwich or mac and cheese in there too it would be 100% perfect…

And next miss Layne.  Since she first walked across the room exactly one month ago today, she has been quite the independent spirit.  She is always on the go, and going quickly.  I used to be able to open the refrigerator, get what I needed out and then close it before she could get to me.  Now she is across the room and trying to pull things off the door before I have even gotten anything out.  She does laps around the house…  And the hair, oh the hair.  It is forever hanging in her face yet she refuses to wear a barrette.  (Though as I write this she is going on hour three with one in her hair, I think she forgot I put it in!!)  As soon as I take my hand away from putting one in to hold it out of the way, she is pulling it out and handing it back to me with a big smile on her face.  I snapped this the other day and it’s just a perfect little snapshot moment – all on her own, cute little diaper bottom, hair in her face, miss independent.
