Four Wonderful Years | Providence Photographer
Dear Nolan,
Four years ago today (and about six hours ago exactly as I am typing this) you came into the world and made us a family. You wanted to be born on the most appropriate of days, Labor Day, and you took your time arriving putting mommy through 27 hours in the hospital. Thankfully when it was time to actually come out, you came quickly and with a small head. We were in love at first sight with you. Our first child. Our baby. A perfect mix of both of us.
We knew our lives would never be the same, that they would be changed forever, but we had no idea how much they would change. You have been a wonder, a marvel, a delight to us and have made our lives, brighter, funnier, happier and fuller for the past four years.
Over the years, daddy may have trained you to be a Red Sox fan, but I won the ultimate battle and turned you into a Steelers fan…
We have taken you to baseball games, the beach, the orchard, so so many places to share with you…
We have watched you grow into a wonderful, adorable boy. You have weathered three moves, two cities, numerous haircuts, a few trips to the emergency room and so many more things. We’ve seen more than our share of tears, tantrums and the like but have had many hundreds times over more of laughs, tickles, giggles, hiccups and playing. We’ve taken you to several different states, on an airplane, in a car and even on a train. We have learned to live with an egg allergy and numerous trips back to find “teddy” wherever we left him because you couldn’t sleep without him. We have read books until they fell apart and sung songs so often we know them by heart. Although you are four years old now and although all traces of baby are gone now, you’ll always be our sweet, sweet baby boy. And now that you are a big brother we get to watch you with Layne which is a whole new world of wonderful. Thank you for making our lives richer, better, happier, more complete and more perfect. Thank you for helping us remember to not take life so seriously, that it’s okay to dance around and sing at the top of our lungs or stay in our pajamas and watch cartoons. Thank you for being you. We love you very, VERY much.
Freebie Friday and Happy Happy | Providence Family Photography
Happy Friday!! While this is normally always a reason to celebrate, it is a special Friday because it is the first of four (yes four) Freebie Fridays that I am doing on the blog!!
SO as the post was titled, Happy Happy! That’s because there are a few different things we are celebrating in our house. First it is a very special time in the Rogalski household because tomorrow is our son Nolan’s fourth birthday! Four years already that our little man has been around. We cannot believe how quickly these past years have gone! You think time goes by more quickly as you get older but once you have children, man, it just flies. So right now our house is awash is family, and Lightning McQueen almost as far as the eye can see. Cars decorations, Cars plates, Cars cups, Cars everything. And tomorrow the madness really begins as 30 or so people descend on the house for his party. Should be a blast! 🙂 Check back tomorrow for some photos and some old-to-new photos of the little man.
It is also an exciting time (okay, more for me than everyone else) because this marks two years that I have been in business! To celebrate a combination of the two, I decided to do giveaways on the blog to share in our excitement – and I picked four because that is how old Nolan is going to be. So make sure to check each of the next three Fridays to see what is up next. I have found some pretty cool things to give and you might notice that they all follow a certain color scheme which just *happens* to be both my business colors and my favorite colors in the world – blue, brown and orange!
First up is a gorgeous set of 10 blank folded note cards from Mary Carstens of Paper and Ink Studio. Mary is a friend of mine based out of New Orleans and does gorgeous stationery, invitations, etc. You may have seen her shop on Etsy or seen her highlighted on my blog before because I just adore what she does. These note cards measure 5×3.5 in Tiffany and come with matching envelopes. In today’s day and age of electronic everything, I think it’s important to still try and write things out by hand every once in awhile. It’s becoming a lost art. These note cards are blank so you can use them for whatever you’d like while you’re celebrating that lost art. Write a note to a teacher. Write a love note to your spouse (I am in favor of this option). Write a Thank You. Just write. 😉
All you have to do to be eligible is to leave a comment below! I’ll even give you one extra entry if you retweet or link to it on your Facebook page. Good luck! Contest will end tonight (9/4) at midnight!
What to Wear Idea | Providence Family Photographer
“What should we wear?” is one of the most common questions that I get when people are booking a session. Well, I have put together a little online book that you are welcome to look at after you’ve booked your session, just ask if I don’t tell you first! For those of you not booking a session, I’ve decided to start every once in a while highlighting some outfits ideas for families. It doesn’t have to be these exact outfits (and trust me, I have expensive taste when dressing other people!!!) but hopefully it will give you an idea of how to mix and match colors, patterns and clothes when outfitting yourselves 🙂
Today we start with one of my favorite color combinations – blue and brown. I chose to make the little girl the focus, as will usually be the case when dressing a family. I picked a cute dress, footless tights and flats. Then I spun off of her outfit colors for the rest of the family. For the son, a nice simple rugby, cords and brown shoes. For mom, nice wide leg jeans to balance out the body, and a chunky cord blazer to hide a multitude of sins and provide extra warmth for a fall morning. For dad, basic dark jeans and a brown cable sweater. Notice mom and the little girl also have a pop of a third color. This is a great thing just to add a little more visual interest.
