1.  First and most obviously, welcome to my new blog design!!!  Yippee!!  I was so excited to discover that there was a new version of my blog design out there for me to buy.  Like I didn’t have enough of a list of things I wanted to purchase, someone had to inform me of THIS.  But I did it because oh my gosh, is it SO much cooler.  I mean I was happy with what i had before, but this, WOWZA.  Of course the parts of it I love the most you can’t see because it’s on the admin side, but trust me, it’s awesome.  Hopefully you all like it, too!  Take a while, look around, check out the tabs, the collapsible comments, etc.  And look for cool new features like the ability to do sneak peeks in a lightroom or slideshow format.  Lots of goodies.

2.  I might still have two spots in my Get Manual Workshop left so if you want in, just let me know!

3.  There are five days left to save up to $400 on your next session!!  See HERE for details.

4.  I just ordered nine canvases for my display at Bellani Maternity last night!  They should be in at the end of next week and then be up.  It took me FOREVER to decide what images to use but I am very happy with the way it turned out.  Some people will definitely recognize their pretty little faces in there.  😉  I’ll definitely take a picture when they are all in and up.  Anyone want to come and help me hang them?

5.  One shot from my last newborn session that I loved but didn’t share here…I can rarely get this pose with a newborn but every once in a while (okay, this was my third time only) I get it.  Look at that precious little face!

6.  I admit it.  I have joined the ranks of snuggie owners and I am in LOVE.  I put it off for the longest time.  I made fun of it.  I made fun of people who had one.  But then I started talking to people and friends who had them and they said how great it was.  Where my desk is in my house I am right near a radiator but am right next to a window so there are many times I get chilly, especially because we try not to jack the heat up and save on bills.  So my wonderful husband ordered me an SU snuggie for Christmas and it arrived last week.  (Nolan immediately declared upon opening it that he wanted one too!)  It is wonderful.  It is warm and cozy and awesome to lay around in, especially when not feeling good.  And of course, it is an SU snuggie which makes it even more awesome.  Now I will NOT be going bar hopping in it as the commercial suggests (plus I can’t remember the last time I actually bar hopped??).  But I will be wearing it around the house.  And editing in it.  And if you come to the house to pick up an order, I can’t guarantee that I won’t be wearing it.  But I solemnly swear that I will not leave the house with it on.  😉

7.  I selected my first three photographers for interviews and am SO excited to get them on here 🙂  They are some of my favorites.

8.  I’m working on some examples of bad photography for both my workshop as well as a post and let me tell you, it’s HARD to be bad!!  I keep intentionally doing things to photos and my brain is screaming at me to “fix” them!!  Makes it tough.

9.  I might have mentioned it, but I am having a looooong awaited date weekend with my husband this weekend.  The kids are off to CT to stay with the in-laws, we’re going to Boston Friday night for the Harry Potter exhibit (yes, we like it, if that makes us dorky so be it.), a spa day for me Saturday, have dinner reservations for Saturday, diner plans for breakfast Sunday, and (though it goes without saying) plans to SLEEP IN.  I have a session Friday morning but then I plan to do nothing.  Sorry folks, no posts.  I am disconnecting.  Can you really blame a girl though?

10.  Not to end on a serious note, but I wanted to touch on Haiti.  The devastation in Haiti has been overwhelming to see on TV.  I watched the 60 Minutes story on it the other night when my parents were in town and I almost didn’t make it through.  Some of the images and footage that they showed was just unbearable.  It breaks my heart to know that this is going on in the world.  So what have you done to help?  Have you donated to American Red Cross or Care.org?  We donated to the Red Cross (easiest way ever – text HAITI to 90999 and it will add $10 to your next cell phone bill).  Another very easy way – buy the Hope for Haiti Now CD off of iTunes.  I bought it the night they did the telethon, mainly just to have Justin Timberlake’s recording of Hallelujah but I have found it to be absolutely amazing, especially Stevie Wonder singing Bridge Over Troubled Waters (though I am a sucked for anything S&G).  And at only $7.99 you are supporting a great cause (100% of the proceeds go to relief efforts) and you get 23 amazing songs.  I am actually listening to it right now as I type this – which has been perfect for this super dreary and incredibly rainy day.  By the way – that telethon has already raised $58 million dollars and it’s still growing.  Isn’t it INCREDIBLE to see what can happen when people come together for a single cause?

That’s it for this week!  See you tomorrow 🙂

Well, as previously stated, I was a bit under the weather this past weekend.  I caught Layne’s cold and then woke up Saturday not feeling well with what turned out to be a mild case of pinkeye.  JOY.  So there went my two sessions for the weekend.  As a result, there will be no sneak peeks this week, just other random posts.  For today, Mine on Monday.  It’s been a while since I shared the kiddos…

First up is Nolan.  This is the perfect picture of him for two reasons.  First the legos.  Legos are HUGE in the house.  HUGE.  We started off with the big old duplo blocks and then progressed to the big legos and then last Christmas he received his first set of 480 teeeeeny tiny legos (Thanks, Uncle Nate).  Ever since then it has been lego land in our house.  This Christmas he got a giant crane from the uncles – he calls it the “Craner Crane”  As a result the lego interest has just grown.  He is forever building – cars, houses, etc.  He is slightly obsessed with them we think.  But he loves it.  And I have to admit that some of the stuff he builds is pretty cool.  The second reason this picture is perfect is that he is also equally obsessed with the Penguins of Madagascar which you can just slightly see on the shirt he is wearing.  Ever since being introduced to the movie Madagascar 2 at a friend’s house, he has fallen in love.  We watch the show, we DVR it, we talk about it.  And he has named his lego men after them – so on his lego car in the picture are Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico.  And he remembers who they are from day to day – not like he makes up new names for the men each day…  This picture just captures everything about him at this moment in time.  Now if only I could have put some pbj sandwich or mac and cheese in there too it would be 100% perfect…

And next miss Layne.  Since she first walked across the room exactly one month ago today, she has been quite the independent spirit.  She is always on the go, and going quickly.  I used to be able to open the refrigerator, get what I needed out and then close it before she could get to me.  Now she is across the room and trying to pull things off the door before I have even gotten anything out.  She does laps around the house…  And the hair, oh the hair.  It is forever hanging in her face yet she refuses to wear a barrette.  (Though as I write this she is going on hour three with one in her hair, I think she forgot I put it in!!)  As soon as I take my hand away from putting one in to hold it out of the way, she is pulling it out and handing it back to me with a big smile on her face.  I snapped this the other day and it’s just a perfect little snapshot moment – all on her own, cute little diaper bottom, hair in her face, miss independent.

Welcome to the new blog design… A few very cool features you may have noticed – some awesome sliding sidebar widgets over there on the left, a new background that matches my logo, post dividers, a bigger logo and the potential to do this: Beautiful lightbox style galleries as well as slideshows right here in the posts. Yay! So being sick CAN be productive!

Fashion Friday – Think Spring! | Rhode Island Photography

Well it’s official – we are on the way towards SPRING!  I can feel it in the air.  Really, I can.   Okay, I can’t…but I like to tell myself I can 😉  One place I can definitely feel it though is in the stores.  If you go shopping like I did trying to find anything for winter, GOOD LUCK!  Spring fashion is here and I am so excited! While fall is hands down my favorite season, Spring is a close second (once you take away the allergies!).  So this fashion piece here is going to focus on vibrant colors.  Think bright things.  Step away from the rust colors and deep greens (as much as I love both of those).

For girls, bright cute dresses or tunics.  For cooler weather shoots, layer them over a funky long sleeved tee with leggings or jeans.  For warmer weather, wear them on their own with sandals.  My favorite looks are from Boden (always) and Daily Tea for the spring.  I absolutely ADORE the first dress in Boden – it has funky beading sewn onto the bodice which I just LOVE and comes in a few different colors!!!  And Daily Tea as always has wonderful coordinating looks – check out their leggings and pants selections.

For boys, polos and button down shirts are easy choices.  For cooler weather, again layer them over long sleeved tees and pair them with a pair of cargos or a sweater. For warmer weather, shorts and sandals or khakis.  The in things for boys as always in the spring – golf looks and sporty looks.  I personally think both are an adorable style.  Very preppy, clean cut and fun.  Just try not to get too casual with the sports theme.  You can definitely have fun with it and it gives you some wiggle room, but not too casual.  The other look is just the preppy look period.  Love a blazer on a little boy 🙂  (but personally, I would go darker on the jeans for that look.)

So think BRIGHT!  Think FUN!  Think SPRING if you’re planning a session!!!!

It’s baaaaack!  (for this week)

1.  I will have had three newborns in less than two weeks after this weekend and I am THRILLED!!  I love newborns.  They’re squishy and scrunchy and just so adorably perfect in their newness.  Gives me baby fever!  Shhh…don’t tell Matt.

2.  There are still two spots left in my workshop on the 6th.  If you’re interested, contact me asap!  I am busy putting together the outline and gathering materials for it.  So excited!

3.  I just booked myself a day of beauty for the last weekend of the month.  I cannot WAIT as it’s something I never ever get to do for myself.  Thanks to an excellent birthday present from my parents, however, I am getting to do it.  I think I might even shut down the computer and phone while I’m at it.  The kids will be in Connecticut, my husband is actually NOT on call and I am getting pampered.  Yippee!  Oh and local people, it is Elan Day Spa – I’ll be sure to recommend if I like it!

4.  So Layne did end up having an ear infection.  Poor thing.  Our very first ear infection in this house.  Nolan somehow went four years without ever having one.  He also never had croup and within 12 months, Layne has managed to have both.  But my theory on this is that she will NOT get the egg allergy that he has (fingers crossed!)

5.  If you are a 2009 client and haven’t checked out my Big Canvas Sale that is going on, you really should.  Ends January 31.  Go BIG!

6.  On a related note, most people have seen my Bigger Really IS Better post by now.  But most people don’t know HOW to go bigger.  In fact, I have gotten a few questions from people about that.  They say “I’d love to go bigger but I just don’t know how to.  Do I frame it or what?”  Never fear, I am working on a follow up post about different options for going big that I offer.

7.  I just got a beautiful sample coffee table album in that I can’t wait to share with clients.  Just gorgeous!!  Even nicer and still to come is the stunningly beautiful flush mount album that I am offering beginning this year.  Think leather cover, thick pages, – an elegant way to preserve the images from your session.

8.  We are planning a trip back to North Carolina for the end of March and then Orlando in the beginning of May.  Two family trips and I can’t wait!  We’ll be in North Carolina for about a week and then Orlando for the same.  Thinking possibly about taking Nolan to Disney World but not entirely sure…

9.  I am working on a few possible giveaways as well as some photographer interviews that I haven’t gotten to do yet to help fill these slower months, so check back occasionally to see what’s going on 🙂

10.  And last but certainly not least, I am so SO excited to announce that I have been chosen by Bellani Maternity to display my work in their store!!!!!  If you are local and have been pregnant or have a baby, chances are that you know Bellani quite well.  I was beyond THRILLED that they contacted me.  My display will be going in the room where the classes are held.  If you are local and you have NOT heard of them you must must must check them out.  They offer a ton of things for everything between maternity and children under three years of age.  They are also a phenomenal breastfeeding resource as well as a few other things such as cloth diapering, baby wearing, etc.  Once I get it up there I will definitely be taking photos of the display and sharing it here.  This has thrust me into the process of redesigning some of my marketing materials so I have been a busy bee!

That’s it for this week!  🙂
