Fall Family Session Fun at Brown University

I first met the L family a few years ago and was so happy when they came back for a fall family photo session. We started in their beautiful new home on the east side for some fun family photos in the living areas. From the gorgeous blue wall in the office to the fun huge window seat in the playroom to even their stairs and a doorway. We used a variety of places which is one of my favorite parts about shooting in clients’ homes. The images are truly unique to them!!

From there we headed over to the quad at Brown University It was a beautiful day with some of the fall leaves dotting the grass and was so vibrant with students and people. But the nice part is because of the size we were able to do photos and make it feel like they had the whole place to themselves! We played some silly games on the sidewalks and in the grass, we threw leaves, we ran around – all in all a pretty typical family session with me. The bonus of fall family photos too – you’re much less likely to get sweaty and hot!! So we can do all of those things and no one ends up red faced or shiny 🙂 The kids were adorable, the parents super in love with each other, and my favorite part – we got images that are going to bring them right back to this moment in time when they look at them, no matter how big or old those kids get.

Newborn Baby Boy | East Side of Providence Newborn Photos

Being a newborn photographer, I am often meeting new couples and families. By and large unless it is a second or third baby the families hiring me are coming to me for the first time. For that reason I offer a pre-session consultation with families. Obviously, having someone you’ve never met come into your home after one of the biggest events of your life with your brand new baby can be a bit nerve wracking!

When I first met mom for their session consult it was as if we had been friends for years by the end. She gave me a quick tour of the house so I could plan out where we would do images. After that, we sat and chatted for quite a while about being pregnant, giving birth, some tips for after, and more. I always joke that my degree in psychology comes in far handier than a degree in photography ever would have. Coupled with having done the pregnancy and birth thing three times over and, well, you’re getting so much more than just a newborn photographer.

But with that consult, the goal is to make parents more comfortable. That way when I come back in a few weeks, it’s not a complete stranger walking through the door. And this time was absolutely that. Walking back in and meeting dad and seeing mom again was an instant and easy connection. I don’t think I have laughed as much as I did during their session together. I am fortunate to work with so many awesome couples. Maybe it is my website or how I communicate with them before they book – I don’t know what it is but it works. They were so relaxed and goofy and just happy. And baby Luca was perfection.

We did images in both their nursery and the master bedroom and got so many snuggly awesome baby moments. Doing a storyteller session allowed for everyone to relax and let the session flow naturally. This choice of session combined with that consult – just *chef’s kiss.*

Providence RI Family Photography | In Home Lifestyle Session

I am sure I have said it before, but one of the things I love about storyteller sessions is getting to photograph families in their home and just telling the story of their lives. Nothing fancy, nothing posed. Just sweet loving families being themselves. This family was certainly no exception. Mom reached out to schedule her session just in time for her sweet boy’s first birthday in their home on the east side of Providence. Now I have said (and firmly believe) that any home works for photo sessions. But I do ADORE homes on the east side. Most are much older with all of the features of an old home and this one did not disappoint. A wonderful staircase and hallways with high ceilings that we made so much use of in their images!! But the best part was the people inside the home. We all know no matter how awesome the house if the people aren’t fun, it won’t work.

Thankfully, they were fantastic!! We did fun images on mom and dad’s bed – which little kids always love – as well as some in his nursery. If you can see it in the crib image, the picture above it was actually a painting of his dad with his dad. I loved that little touch that we could include for them (and it’s something so personal you cannot get in a studio setting). We had so much fun in our time together. Our session – and their resulting gallery – was full of laughs and smiles and book reading and tickling and crawling and flying. We played games and sang silly songs and stopped for a snack when it was needed. We bounced on ottomans and in cribs, crawled and drooled. There were hugs and kisses, quiet moments and loud laughter filled ones. All the fun things you want in your family photo session.

Fall Mini Sessions!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! (Early!)

Yep. It’s that time of year already. Time to start thinking jeans, tall boots, sweaters and scarves because Fall Mini Sessions are booking NOW! As with previous years I am doing two sets of fall photography mini sessions this year – BUT I am doing two days in an urban location and two days in a field location so there is even more choice in your dates. So choose what look you want:

As always, mini sessions are, well, MINI. You’re looking at 20-25 minutes of shooting time – perfect for those kids (and husbands!) not really into photos but willing to behave for a small amount of time. They are not appropriate for newborns and while babies under six months of age are welcome, realize that unless they’re sitting on their own, some part of your body will also be in the photo since you will likely be holding them. As with last year, I am only offering one package but that makes choosing super easy. You get:

Sweet baby girl

I met this sweet newborn baby girl and her parents back in early December when she was just about two weeks old. (Finally starting to catch back up on my blogging here – better late than never??)! Lucy was just beautiful with giant blue eyes and perfect skin. We concentrated a lot on lifestyle shots with both mom and dad, which is my first love, and then did a little bit of images with just Lucy on the beanbag towards the end of the session. It was so great to see mom and dad with their little girl and the one image I got with all of them smiling is absolutely one of my most favorites from the session if not the whole year <3
