Continuing the last post (which continued from a previous post)…baby India’s newborn session.  I was so very fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph the maternity, Fresh 48, and newborn sessions for this family.  We were supposed to do some baby’s first year sessions as well but Covid had other plans for us and prevented that from happening.  ::cry::   After doing the Fresh 48 session on her third day, I joined sweet India and her mom and dad at their house for a storyteller session when she was right around two weeks old.

Our session together lasted several hours and we were able to do images in all different parts of the house.  This is absolutely one of my favorite parts of not being tied to a studio!  So often when clients are worried about having a “nice enough” house I tell them they simply need a wall, a window and maybe a bed or couch and we can make it work.  To prove just that, I’ll let you in on a little secret – this was temporary housing for them with almost none of their own furniture! But it still completely worked because they made it HOME.

We were also fortunate enough to have grandma around for a few images as well.  I absolutely love including extended family in some images – they make it extra precious.   Between image with mom and dad, images with grandma, and images on her own, we were able to have such a beautiful gallery!

East Greenwich Newborn Session | Rhode Island Newborn Photography

It’s been a hot minute, so to pick up my backlog in blogging, let’s begin with the newborn session from the last post’s gooooorgeous maternity session.  This beautiful baby girl was so very ready for her closeup at just over two weeks old – and so were mom and dad.  They chose my classic newborn session so their session was much more posed in nature, but we still were able to get a wonderful variety of images.  Especially with the weather being gorgeous outside, we could even add in images outside under the trees in their front yard.  It’s one of my favorite bonuses when the weather is nice during newborn sessions – there is something fun and unexpected about taking everyone outside!  I will happily do images in yards, on benches, under trees, etc.  As long as there is pretty open shade I am good to go.

These two continued the fun and love and adoration for each other from their maternity session straight into their newborn.  They loved that little girl and each other so so very much.  You know when you can just tell how happy people are – when they radiate it?  That is what they did.  Whether I asked them to look at me (more common in the classic session) or give a kiss to someone, they were right there doing it eagerly.  I always joke it’s never hard to get new parents to give babies kisses and hugs and they were no exception.   🙂

I also want to take just a second to chat about their outfits – mom was absolutely stunning in a traditional cream colored tunic that allowed baby girl to shine.  And dad was perfect in a linen shirt.  Both outfits were great and definitely fell under the “what to wear for your newborn session” prompts.  Flattering, beautiful colors, and a cohesive look that let baby girl be the star of the show and didn’t distract.

Newborn Session Rhode Island | Jackson

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing sweet little Jackson’s newborn session at just 10 days of age.  He was the first baby I photographed after everything shut down for Covid.  In fact, my client consultation at his house before the session was the first time I left my house after lockdown started!!  His parents had chosen to do a Storyteller Session which was fantastic because it allowed them to comfortably choose a hands-off session.  Doing the session almost entirely lifestyle was perfect and helped allay their fears.

We began the session outside in their backyard.  I love finding pretty spots outside to use whenever possible in a newborn session!  It’s not often people think about going outside with their newborn which is why I love asking.  After that we came back inside for some images in their adorable sailing themed nursery.  As with all sessions, the baby runs the show.  So we stopped as needed for some quiet feeding time and snuggles when he got upset.  Those allowed for beautiful quiet images of mom and baby – some of my favorites.  I love to take my time with each parent separately.  I find it gives them time in front of the camera to focus on just their baby and ignore everything else.

Once we finished with family images, it was time for Jackson to have his own images.  Under my direction mom and dad were the perfect assistants! Their help allowed me to continue my hands off work, which allowed them to continue feeling comfortable with their decision to do a newborn session with me.  The ultimate goal <3

Newborn Photos Rhode Island | Baby Nora

Oh newborn photos.  How much I absolutely love love love doing them.  Without doubt, it’s my favorite type of session out of all that I offer.  There is just something special about the sessions.  It’s a brand new time in a family’s life that goes so quickly.

Mom contacted me after seeing one of my fusion videos that I make for my storyteller session clients.  She said she absolutely needed to have that.  They were welcoming their fourth child – and their first girl.  Three adorable, loving big brothers, so excited to meet her 🙂

We started the session in the master bedroom where I really love to do my images.  It’s comfortable and cozy and allows everyone to relax.  What’s more it’s almost always easy to throw a blanket over everything and pile on!  We did images of everyone together, as well as each sibling individually.  It’s so important to me to provide that one on one time with new siblings during newborn photos.  There is something really special about that new bond.  Usually they don’t get alone time with the new baby so I love what I can capture there.  I often even (if they’re old enough) kick mom and dad out while I work with them so the images are a complete surprise!

Later we headed outside as the weather was gorgeous that day.  I always take the chance to do images outside if I can!!  After that, we came back in and it was time for baby Nora to star in the show.  We chose a gorgeous pink blanket and wraps that complimented her coloring in order to do beautiful simple baby images.
