Weekapaug Inn Vacation Photo Session | RI Family Photographer

Going on vacation with your family is an exciting time for everyone involved; you create memories that last a lifetime. The G family has been coming to the Weekapaug Inn for a few years and when they were planning their vacation this past year, they knew they wanted to document their vacation with photos to look back on in the future. Mom reached out to a friend for recommendations, and they were pointed in my direction. I was so honored to be the one to capture their special moments together. (Make sure you check out the video at the end – one of my favorites I have ever made!)

Mom mentioned how the boys love to play chess in the lounge – even though they were too little to truly understand the strategy of it, it was a memory she had of them playing with the pieces over the years. So we started our session there – and their little fingers on the pieces and such a grown up game juxtaposed with them holding their lovies?? Got my mom heart big time. From there we took things outside. We began with a round of bocce on the court. The two young boys were eager to show off their skills and enjoyed having some friendly competition with mom and dad while I got a few photos to commemorate the moment. After that, it was time to get cozy! The family snuggled up in chairs on the lawn while I took candid shots that captured their love and affection for each other. As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we ramped things up with some walking and running and even dancing!

From there we headed to the beach. Because no trip to Weekapaug Inn in the summer would be complete without a stop at the beach. I photographed a maternity session there a few years ago and loved it so I was excited to get back. They grabbed a wagon and a football and off we went! So. Much. Fun. They ran in and out of the water, and jumped and twirled and told funny jokes and explored rocks and creatures. It was the perfect way to wrap up our time together.

Definitely, absolutely hands down if you want an iconic, gorgeous, relaxed family vacation, Weekapaug is the place to be. <3

Beach Maternity Session | Rhode Island Maternity Photographer

Beach maternity sessions take on all different looks depending on when and where you are doing them in Rhode Island. One of the things I pride myself on with my sessions is being able to customize them to my clients. Now for studio photographers that might mean doing a whole set and props etc. But for me, that means we make the session at the location of your choosing, on a day of your choosing (as long as it works) and in a style of your choosing. When mom and dad mentioned that they weren’t totally sure where to do their maternity session but were both kite surfers, I knew it had to be a beach maternity setting. Especially once they mentioned bringing the dog along. But which kind of beach?? Which worked the best?

We ended up on her suggestion settling on the Pheasant Hill beach in Portsmouth. If you’ve never been there it’s not the easiest place to find since it’s down through a neighborhood in a hidden drive. But once you get there you have gorgeous views of the Mt Hope bridge, the Hog Island Lighthouse and a beautiful rock-filled beach. It was the PERFECT location for them. Her tank dress and converse, his plaid shirt and jeans, it just worked so well against the beach setting. It was relaxed, natural, casual just like their session. We strolled the length of the beach getting the Mt Hope bridge in the background, got some images under a fun pier at one end of the beach, and even got a little different look going up on a walking path. On the beach it was very neutral and rocky, and on the walking path it was bushes and beautiful greens.

Combining all of these things with a gorgeous perfect belly made for a truly unique, truly them session.

North Kingstown Newborn | Rhode Island Newborn Photographer

You may remember this couple from their maternity session earlier on the blog in Wickford Harbor in North Kingstown, and now it’s time to visit their adorable newborn session. Baby Bodhi’s newborn session was delayed a little bit due to Covid in my house. I take it seriously even still today – I don’t want to risk giving sweet little newborn babies any illness at all!! (And with three kids at three schools there are always bugs of some kind floating around so I actually also still mask – I don’t know if I’ll even change that in the future.) But even though we had to wait until he was a few weeks old for his session, it went so very well. That is one of my favorite parts of my newborn photography. I don’t need them to be tiny or under 10 days old. I don’t need them to fit in a teeny basket or prop of some kind. I don’t want to make them look like a standing potato on a blanket (iykyk).

Instead I want them fifteen days old or older. Give me ALL the older babies!! Parents are more relaxed. Feeding is going better. Babies are settling in more. Especially with first time parents, that delay can make a world of difference – everyone is just so much more comfortable. Bodhi and his mom and dad were no exception. They made our newborn session delightfully easy. We did the majority of their session in front of the large window overlooking their backyard and dock in North Kingstown, and some images in their master bedroom. So often clients will say “well our house isn’t xyz.” Listen, if you have a window and you have a bed or a couch, I am good to go and we will get beautiful images!

We did images with mom and with dad separately and then together. I also got some adorable ones of just Bodhi himself. Mom and dad chose to have a mix of classic images and beanbag so I chose a simple blue swaddle that went with the nautical theme of his nursery. Some of my favorites are the two with mom from above – check them out below. Something a little different and yet so familiar and sweet.

Newborn Baby Boy | East Side of Providence Newborn Photos

Being a newborn photographer, I am often meeting new couples and families. By and large unless it is a second or third baby the families hiring me are coming to me for the first time. For that reason I offer a pre-session consultation with families. Obviously, having someone you’ve never met come into your home after one of the biggest events of your life with your brand new baby can be a bit nerve wracking!

When I first met mom for their session consult it was as if we had been friends for years by the end. She gave me a quick tour of the house so I could plan out where we would do images. After that, we sat and chatted for quite a while about being pregnant, giving birth, some tips for after, and more. I always joke that my degree in psychology comes in far handier than a degree in photography ever would have. Coupled with having done the pregnancy and birth thing three times over and, well, you’re getting so much more than just a newborn photographer.

But with that consult, the goal is to make parents more comfortable. That way when I come back in a few weeks, it’s not a complete stranger walking through the door. And this time was absolutely that. Walking back in and meeting dad and seeing mom again was an instant and easy connection. I don’t think I have laughed as much as I did during their session together. I am fortunate to work with so many awesome couples. Maybe it is my website or how I communicate with them before they book – I don’t know what it is but it works. They were so relaxed and goofy and just happy. And baby Luca was perfection.

We did images in both their nursery and the master bedroom and got so many snuggly awesome baby moments. Doing a storyteller session allowed for everyone to relax and let the session flow naturally. This choice of session combined with that consult – just *chef’s kiss.*

Providence RI Family Photography | In Home Lifestyle Session

I am sure I have said it before, but one of the things I love about storyteller sessions is getting to photograph families in their home and just telling the story of their lives. Nothing fancy, nothing posed. Just sweet loving families being themselves. This family was certainly no exception. Mom reached out to schedule her session just in time for her sweet boy’s first birthday in their home on the east side of Providence. Now I have said (and firmly believe) that any home works for photo sessions. But I do ADORE homes on the east side. Most are much older with all of the features of an old home and this one did not disappoint. A wonderful staircase and hallways with high ceilings that we made so much use of in their images!! But the best part was the people inside the home. We all know no matter how awesome the house if the people aren’t fun, it won’t work.

Thankfully, they were fantastic!! We did fun images on mom and dad’s bed – which little kids always love – as well as some in his nursery. If you can see it in the crib image, the picture above it was actually a painting of his dad with his dad. I loved that little touch that we could include for them (and it’s something so personal you cannot get in a studio setting). We had so much fun in our time together. Our session – and their resulting gallery – was full of laughs and smiles and book reading and tickling and crawling and flying. We played games and sang silly songs and stopped for a snack when it was needed. We bounced on ottomans and in cribs, crawled and drooled. There were hugs and kisses, quiet moments and loud laughter filled ones. All the fun things you want in your family photo session.
