I realized when editing these photos that I have now had three “C.” families each with three kids for my past three sessions.  They say things happen in threes, right??  I guess this is living proof of it!  I met my most recent C. family at Roger Williams Park last night for some family photos in the beautiful evening light.  This was a little more nerve-wracking however, because mom is also a photographer.  It’s always harder to shoot for another photographer – it’s like the pressure doubles for some reason!!  Thankfully I had nothing to worry about.  It went great – three gorgeous kids, gorgeous mom and dad, gorgeous surroundings, really how could it go wrong???  W., C. and A. did definitely give me a challenge as any three siblings will but after working on it for a while, singing plenty of silly songs, dancing, all of my normal tricks, I managed to coax some smiles out of them.  Some of my favorites…

“If You’re Happy and you Know It” can work wonders!  (By the way, K, no swaps needed!!)

1.  I had a GREAT time in Philadelphia!!!  I hope you have gotten to see the photos I took of the two C. families – if not scroll down a bit and take a look.  SO much fun.  The ironic thing to me is that I have only ever shot one family that had three children.  Both of my Philly sessions were three children as is my session later this afternoon.  All of a sudden I am surrounded by sibling sets of three!!

2.  As we all know, Halloween is coming up this weekend.  Nolan has been very excited for this for a while now.  He has insisted on ending every conversation before bed or nap with “Happy Halloween!”  I don’t think he *quite* understands that it’s really just a one day thing.  He is going to be Bob the Builder this year and just loves his costume.  He has already gotten to wear it twice – at our neighborhood’s halloween parade and at school yesterday where they did a very cute parade around the block (okay, so parade is a bit of a strong word, they walked around the school…still..SO cute).  Here he is parading (yes he really is that pale poor boy has inherited my complexion):

And Layne and Matt watching him parade.  We were lucky enough that Matt is on vacation this week so we all got to go to the parade!

3.  I am taking suggestions for my What to Wear next week.  Any thoughts on colors, or family members?

4.  I have been an editing FIEND these past few days.  But I haven’t really had a choice because I have six sessions in seven days this week.  So I am already done with the sessions from this past weekend.  It’s been a few long, late nights and busy days but worth it to know that two are already done.

5.  And yeah, four sessions over the next four days.  Eeeek!  It’s going to be fun though so I can’t wait.  I love shooting and editing!!  I was telling my clients this weekend that I couldn’t do this as my job if I didn’t love it as much as I do.

6.  I am working on a post about how to recognize good photography for people looking for a photographer for the holidays or just in general.  Stay tuned!

7.  Have you guys seen the new iMacs that have come out?  I want THIS.  In 27″ size.  Don’t get me wrong I love my MacBookPro laptop but what can I say, I am being greedy in making my list of “things that I’d love to buy someday when I win the lotto.”

8.  I just bought this fabulous AmyKathryn Marigold Magenta bag and I can’t wait to get it!!  I got it at The Mini Social and with account credits from other people I paid a grand total of $6 (it’s worth $120). 😀  I didn’t used to really be a huge bag person until they were taken away from me with the arrival of children.  Gone was the chance to have a cute purse.  Instead for the past four and a half years I have been carrying various styles of ugly functional diaper bags.  So when the opportunity arises to get something that is cute, stylish AND functional I just cannot pass it up.  Especially when it’s on sale and I have a credit.  And bonus – I can stick my camera in it!  Extra bonus – it’s completely animal-friendly materials!Picture 1

9.  One more shot from this past weekend.  I adore everything about this photo…

10.  I am thinking seriously about making Philly Sessions a monthly thing.  Just one weekend a month with only two or three slots open per weekend to get in sessions.  Thinking, thinking, thinking…

11.  Holiday cards are finally all set up to see!  If you’re interested in looking at my offerings for this year let me know and I will give you the information to view them.

12.  Only eight short weeks until Christmas!!  If you’re stuck for a present for someone, gift cards for a portrait session make a GREAT present!  Whether it’s from me or from a photographer in your area, it’s a wonderful and thoughtful gift.

13.  I’m going to VEGAS!!  I don’t think I mentioned this yet.  I will be attending the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International Conference in early March with a whole bunch of other photographers that I know and a TON that I don’t. I am so excited as so many others have gone and raved about the experience.  I can’t wait!

That’s it for this week.  Four sessions in four days here I come.  I hope you all have a very safe and happy Halloween!!

It may be 10:40 on Wednesday night, but it’s still Wednesday!!!  For this week’s WTW, I used one of my FAVORITE colors – orange.  And one of my absolute favorite dresses ever for little girls.  Meet the Funky Knitted Dress from Mini Boden.  Have you noticed my love for Boden yet??  They are just so good and so cute.  And this dress AH!  I just love it.  A touch of whimsy, a punch of color and a touch of funk.  I paired it with either blue or purple tights and the finished it with the bright orange rain boots.  Now, one rule of thumb for dressing for photos – don’t wear something you would never normally wear.  For some families, this look would not work at all.  But for others, it totally goes.  I personally want to order every size of this dress for Layne for when she gets bigger.  I matched it up to a structured jacket for both mom and dad and a pretty top for mom playing off of the purple and a nice cotton cashmere sweater for dad in the orange.  Then casual but nice jeans for both.  You could also add in a scarf and hat for the little girl and layer a long sleeved tee underneath and have a cute colder weather outfit for photos without needing a coat.

Any requests for next week?  Colors, families, etc?

I ended my day (and my trip to Philly) at the George School in Newtown, PA. I had shot at this location previously and loved loved loved it. The funny part is that I have only been to this one part! I haven’t even gotten to other parts of the campus! So keep this location in mind, Philly peeps, for future sessions. Because yes, I am SO coming back to Philly. Anywho, I digress. The C. family (notice this is my second C. family of the day and both had three kids!) met me there for a loooovely evening light session. Three gorgeous children – 7, newly 6 (that very day) and 2 years old. And gorgeous mom and dad to boot. All in all a very good mix. We traipsed around and had a blast climbing on old abandoned pieces of farm equipment, up and down stairs and hills and all over the place. It was a great end to the weekend 🙂 Thanks for hanging out with me guys and H. I hope you had a fantastic birthday dinner!!!

More Philly to come in two weeks when I return for five (yes FIVE) sessions in 24 hours!!!!

I met the C. family yesterday morning in Center City for the first of my mini shoots in Philadelphia this weekend.  Three girls – 12, 10 and 8 and they were WONDERFUL!!  We started by discussing the previous night’s Flyers game so, as a sports fan, I knew it was going to go well!  I also got the coolest shot ever – I made them jump in front of these three gorgeous doors on, of all things, the Wachovia Bank right on Broad street.  Thankfully even at those ages they weren’t too cool to do it because I LOVE the resulting shot 😉 We also did some shots around Old City and got some great gorgeous pictures. Thanks so much girls (and mom for getting in a few, and dad for chauffeuring) for coming to hang out with me on a chilly morning. Hope you like seeing yourselves on here!!
