Tour of my Office – Rhode Island Photography

One of the Photographer groups that I am in on Facebook had a question the other day asking to see people’s office spaces.  And it occurred to me that I don’t think I had ever shared my office on here.  So since it was looking like a bomb went off pretty good, I got to work deep cleaning tidying things up.  I even vacuumed, which my husband can tell you, never happens.  (Besides this room, I also have a big closet down in the basement that houses even more blankets, packaging supplies, lens and body boxes, extra bags and baskets, old external hard drives, etc etc.  No photos of that, however.  It’s ugly.)

A few things to know about me.  I NEED LIGHT in my life.  I hate when rooms are dark so I took the room with the most windows BUT I face my computer to the wall so I don’t get reflections.  I love to have my photos around because it makes me happy so I have lots of pictures hanging, leaning, etc.  Kind of throws other people for a loop when they walk in the house and see all of these random families on my walls.  (I do have a framed 8×10 wedding photo as well as a 5×7 of my kids arranged so I can see both without moving from my desk because as I told someone else, it’s nice to be reminded of who I do this all for.)  I am also slightly obsessed with collecting all of the air packs that come with packages – those cushiony inflated plastic things you use to pack boxes safely – and bubble wrap.  I have an entire huge basket full of it that you’ll see.  And yes, that is an extra iMac in the corner.  That is my old 24″ that needed a new harddrive — while it was getting fixed I got the 27″.  So thus, two.

My corner and armoire.  This armoire has had several lives – originally intended for my son’s nursery in Philly that had no closet and then my daughter’s room, it has transitioned into a beautiful work space!  Holds all of my newborn wraps, my packaging supplies, random apple boxes, blankets, etc and has basket storage on top!  (I do my actual packaging on the floor and/or downstairs on the pool table.  Be jealous people, be jealous.)

More details.  My actual desktop with my lamp (I saw the colors, how could I resist it?) and computer.  The dual level desk (from Target – yay Target!) helps (in theory) to keep it clean.  The low shelf is actually a tv bench from Ikea and awesome.  Holds more packaging things and also serves as a storage / resting place for orders when they come in.  The cubes are expedit shelves from Ikea and perfect!    You can see my land’s end personalized totes – LOVE those things.  I have a boy hat bag, girl hat bag, blanket bag and samples bag.  They are *awesome* for bringing to sessions since I only do on-location work.  I also have extra cameras / collector things on top as well as more blankets folded in there and just a few of my random camera bags.  My favorite bags are what you can see there.  My baby, my Kelly Moore Libby bag in orange (great for in-home sessions) and then my Lowepro Slingshot 302AW – great for on-location shoots!  In the corner is my nana’s rocking chair.  So, so important to me and I love having something so personal there..

And just a few more random detail shots.  Like my blanket stack and my basket o’packing bubbles.  (BTW the corkboard I love – Martha Stewart’s line from Staples – cute and cheap and functional!)

So that is pretty much it!  Hope you enjoyed the little tour of my corner of the world.  🙂

On my way to vacation, I made a stop in New Jersey for a very special newborn.  It was just a little over a year ago I was there doing big sister’s Kyleigh’s newborn session (you can see that HERE).  And you can read all about my Jaimie there, Brayden and Kyleigh’s  mommy, I don’t need to repeat it here.  One of my oldest (almost 20 years!) and dearest friends.  🙂  Although it has taken me a while to get back in the swing of things after vacation, I know Jaimie and Chris are very eager to see these.  So no big write up this time, they know that I love and adore and miss them dearly…

Meet Brayden five days old, a bit over 8 pounds and just about perfect in every way.

Yes, I totally just made that blog title up as I was sitting here.  But hey, it sounded pretty good!  I have decided to start reviewing some past sessions that never got blogged here for some reason.  Probably the insanity of going out for shoulder surgery would be my guess.  😉  Today we are starting with one of my favorite people and families, as well as one of my favorite sessions.  Ever.  If you have followed my work for, oh, three years, you know that I have done SEVERAL sessions for Dani and Steve.  If you want to peruse some of my old work and see a whole lot of this family here is a list:

Their first maternity session:  http://amyrophotography.com/blog/beautiful-baby-bump-providence-maternity-photographer/
Their first newborn session:  http://amyrophotography.com/blog/13-days-new-providence-newborn-photography/
(Their 6 month old session with Lilly and year old session with Lilly I was doing something funky with the photos so they don’t display)
A second maternity:  http://amyrophotography.com/blog/dani-rhode-island-maternity-photography/
Jamie’s birth (one of the most amazing things that I have ever done!): http://amyrophotography.com/blog/james-rhode-island-birth-photography/
Their second newborn session: http://amyrophotography.com/blog/jamie-rhode-island-newborn-photography/
An eight month old session that appaers to have been lost in the transfer to the blogsite

And now, their family sesion from last Fall.  Whew.  Man do I love these guys 🙂

We met up at Crane Farm in Lincoln just about exactly an hour before sunset which I knew would provide some amazing rich saturated colors as well as some very contrasty light and dark shots with the cloud cover we had.  Dani had said she wanted a very specific look for her photos that day and had planned outfits down to every last detail.  That combined with an awesome family, some super yummy light, an amazing location and great colors…well…sit back and enjoy  🙂

Sweet, beautiful Elsa did not want to give up her warm, quiet, dark surroundings.  She made mom and dad wait until the very very last minute of 42+ weeks before making her entrance into the world, but clearly it was because she was becoming even more perfect and beautiful.  I had the privilege of meeting her last week at ten days of age and she was amazing.  Eyelashes and a little nose to die for, and loving, wonderful, sweet parents and to top it off a great sleeper.  I usually like to show black and whites for family images, but with two designers as parents, this house was full of amazing color!!  So color it is (for most of them).  And the last image is special – you know me, you know I don’t do clothed newborns, it just doesn’t look right to me.  But mom had saved her coming home outfit to put on Elsa and it was SO so beautiful – a peach Dior dress and bonnet and bloomers with lace and embroidery and buttons…ahhhhh so gorgeous.  She looked like an absolute doll!!

I have mentioned before how I LOVE March Madness.  It is my absolute favorite time of year in sports!!  It helps that I grew up in Syracuse and went to Syracuse University (who has pretty much always had an amazing basketball program!!)  Every year I *try* to run a March Madness promo of some kind just for fun.  This year, right now, is the biggest promo I believe I have ever done. It’s only for the April and May mommies to be (sorry!) but if that is you, I am offering a huge savings of $650 on a full digital session.  I have never done anything like this before as it’s a pretty major slashing of my prices.  Eeek!  But it’s time for some fun and going outside the box, don’t you think??

🙂
