It’s Monday
I just realized this as I was thinking about the week. I guess I was a little ahead of myself. Or possibly more sleep and caffeine-deprived than I initially thought when I was writing my Ten on Tuesday post!!
I just realized this as I was thinking about the week. I guess I was a little ahead of myself. Or possibly more sleep and caffeine-deprived than I initially thought when I was writing my Ten on Tuesday post!!
Okay, I am stepping back into this!
1. I did my last officially booked session this past Friday and I am SO happy!!!! While I will miss shooting (a lot, actually) it is nice to have some down time with my children and family before the holidays. I do have newborn twin girls some time in the next two weeks (good luck, K!!!) but that will be it until after the New Year. I am accepting bookings for the new year and will be running a newborn promo so keep your eyes open for that.
2. Unfortunately this down time hasn’t started yet as I am finishing up editing, placing last orders, shipping out last orders, etc. As a gentle reminder if you haven’t ordered yet (unless you *just* got your gallery) try to get it in as soon as possible to ensure delivery by Christmas. And of course I will be editing the wedding throughout the month. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s faint, but it’s there.
3. My 4th 29th birthday is in ten days. I can’t believe it!! It’s a good thing I loved 29 so much 😉 In the meantime I am wondering where the year has gone because…
4. Layne’s first birthday is in 22 days. Now THAT I really cannot believe. I think I am pretty much in denial about it. So much so that I haven’t even planned a party for her. I am feeling some mommy guilt but with a birthday between Christmas and New Years it’s tough to ask people to come to a party. And again, I am in denial. She cannot possibly be that big already. It seems like yesterday that I was pregnant with her. She did get her first barrettes the other day to help tame the mane so that has made her seem a bit bigger, but still.
5. I have a very special promotion that I am announcing on Wednesday. It is a contest of sorts, a very VERY huge giveaway to a very deserving person. After all, the holiday is about giving and helping others. 🙂 So be sure to check back the next few days to find out more information.
6. I have a brand spanking new 24″ iMac headed my way. It is somewhere between here and Reno, NV last I checked but should be here tomorrow. I am SO excited!!!!! I do love (and have loved for two years) my MacBook Pro. But I am gaining 10″ of screen space and a much faster processor and graphics card along with an extra 750 MB of hard drive. With all of these sessions and the wedding I do believe my computer hates me right at the moment.
7. Are you stuck for a holiday gift for someone? I do offer gift certificates for sessions as well as for print credits. Maybe you have a friend due with a baby. Or want to get a grandmother a family session. Think about the gift of custom photography 🙂 If you are looking for a camera for someone you can always refer back to my friend Susan’s article that I reposted HERE
8. Just three from my last session on Friday. It was third time with them but FINALLY they liked me. They really LIKED me! 😉 We went to Colt State park which is SO gorgeous. It is only my second session there and in the evening with the golden sun and a gorgeous sky it was just absolutely perfect. These were my favorites from the whole day, especially the last one. Just something about it.
9. And because I think Melissa might still be looking just to see if there are any new photos I surprise her with, just one more from my slow editing of the wedding
10. I have six big prints coming to my house right now to hang and I am SO excited. (2) 16×20, (2) 16×24 and (2) 18×24. I wanted to go even bigger but thought I’d see how these look. I will definitely be taking a photo once I have them all up. I always encourage clients to go big but people are so trained to think that 8×10 is a wall size.
That’s all for this week. Off to school drop off and then back to keep editing.
The C. family drove all the way from New York for their session with me this past week. No pressure or anything, really!!! I think it’s the farthest I have had someone come – when I was in PA someone drove 90 minutes. But these guys braved 95 through Connecticut. And anyone that has driven that knows how lovely it can be. But come they did, and with two absolutely beautiful little girls for me to photograph. When we were planning their shoot they said they wanted to use the RISD area since that is where they both went to school which thrilled me because I was itching for some urban! They took me all over the RISD and Brown University areas of the city (boy did I get my workout!!!!) and we got some great shots before watching the sun set over the city as we walked down the hill back to our cars. I had such a great time with them, little E. and C. were just great troopers and so cute. It was great to see how much E. loves her little sister and how much love, even after a 2 hour car ride, they had for each other. (And it was also great to see another set of siblings with completely different eye colors!) E. and W. it was great to finally meet you guys! Enjoy your photos and your precious little girls 🙂
Originally I set up to capture just little C. but when I saw mom’s expression I knew I had to get it in there. What resulted is a top ten favorite moment ever.
So once again, I must admit that I was wrong. That I really really loved shooting something I wasn’t sure ahead of time that I would love.
You may recall back in August I shot John and Melissa’s engagement session with my friend Kristina from Kristina Young Photography and fell in love with shooting engagements. This past weekend, the two of us got together again and headed off to Boston and shoot their gorgeous evening wedding! They got ready at the stunning Taj Hotel, married Saturday evening at the beautiful chapel at Old South Church in Boston and then had a reception at the gloriously chic and sexy Mistral restaurant. (I’d tell you what part of Boston all of those were in but I honestly have no clue. Back Bay? Beacon? Yep. No idea.) It was a beautiful, intimate ceremony followed by an awesome crazy party reception. 😉 Kristina and I had so much fun working together and the evening flowed like a dream. (Big kudos to Mistral for a completely flawless reception!) There were a few tears, lots of laughter, surprise trumpeters, an ovation from people outside the church and tons of great music and dancing just to name a few things. Overall it was a beautiful, wonderful day.
Since I am not used to blogging weddings I am going to stop talking now (I know! Unbelievable, right?!?!!) and just show you the pictures. (and make sure to check out K’s as well when they’re up HERE)
So without further ado…John and Melissa’s wedding, just a *few* of my favorites
They had gorgeous flowers – calla lilies all over the place!
I simply adore her expression here
Melissa and her sisters and friends definitely knew how to get down
The beautiful, funny, touching toast from one of her brothers at the reception
One of my absolute favorites and last shots of the night
Congratulations again, John and Melissa!!! Thanks so much for allowing me and Kristina to photograph your beautiful day and night.
