Meet sweet, beautiful Lucey Rose (we did her mommy’s maternity session HERE).  Lucey was not crazy about sleeping for me.  It happens in newborn sessions.  Usually they are either sleepy and don’t wake up at all or they are very awake and don’t want to sleep at all.  I think Lucey didn’t want to miss a single moment of her first photo shoot  🙂  and really, that was okay!  I adore being able to get wide open eye shots.  Plus, family interaction shots with an awake baby are beautiful and extra special when you get that eye contact with mom and dad and those natural reactions to an awake baby.  ::love::  Now, she did sleep for a little bit after lots of snuggling and shushing and white noise which made me happy because I was able to capture her *amazing* eyelashes and get a few curly positions out of her.  It really was the best of both worlds!!

Sometimes, we become friends with our clients.  It happens.  Sometimes you just click with them when you first meet them and the relationship takes off from there.  Sometimes they are already known to you through other sources so it makes the clicking easier.  But I love when it does happen.  It brings something deeper to your photos with them.  They aren’t just your clients anymore, they are people you have a relationship with.  In some ways, that is TERRIFYING!!  What if you mess up?  What if you do a bad job?  What if your photos aren’t as good as they were the time before?  Heart palpitations I tell you.  But most of the time, it is very relaxing and enjoyable.  Driving to a session where I already know them I am not keyed up.  I don’t have to play “Bleed It Out” by Linkin Park in the car to get me going (really, I do that 😉 ) because I know if nothing else I am going to have a great, relaxed time with them while shooting.    Liz and Sean are those people.  Their first session was a little over two years ago for their first son, Jackson.  Then a year later, we did a family session when Jackson turned one.  (seen HERE) And this time?  It was to welcome in baby brother Max.  After driving to Connecticut for their session, Max continued the wonderful tradition of his big brother by not making a peep the entire time I was there.  It was a gorgeous day so we did the photos right in the enclosed breezeway (and needed no additional heat!) and then did family photos outside.  I was in out and done in under two hours because Max slept the entire time.  I think I saw his eyes once.   It was so great to see them as their complete little family. Totally perfect  🙂Massachusetts newborn photography, sibling shot with newbornConnecticut newborn photography, image of mother and newbornConnecticut family photographyConnecticut family photography, image of mom dad and babyNewborn boy on green blanketbrother newborn shot, massachusetts newborn photographyNewborn baby feet, Foxboro Newborn photographySleeping baby on grey blanket, Foxboro newborn photographyNewborn baby hand image, Easton newborn photography

This past Thursday I got to photograph one of the tiniest babies I have ever had.  Weighing in at just over five pounds, Eva was absolutely beautiful.  Delicate features and long fingers and toes, she was just perfection in a teeeeeny tiny package.  We got some wonderful family shots before moving onto some shots of just her.  She did great for the entire shoot, not making a peep, just staring at mom and dad and sleeping beautifully. It has been a long holiday weekend and I am off to three newborn sessions in three days starting right now, so I will leave this sneak peek at just that and let mom and dad (and their wonderful gift giver!) enjoy 🙂Newborn baby on green blanket swaddledFather kissing newborn baby girlBlack and white image of newborn curled up sleepingBeautiful image of dad kissing newborn baby while mom holds her

When S contacted me to do photos of her children in her cousin’s garden, I admit, I pictured taking photos in someone’s backyard.  I loved the idea of family photos in somewhere special to them but I had no idea what I was getting myself into.  In a separate email a few days later, she sent me the link to the “garden.”  Um, yeah.  This was no backyard.  Started about 40 years ago, this has transformed from a cottage garden to rooms of gardens – I believe over an acre!  When I got to the site on Saturday evening, my jaw literally dropped at how stunning it was.  And the family I was shooting to go along with the gardens?  Adorable!!  With a four and a two year old it was the perfect place for family photos!  The kids (and parents!) were just wonderful and did such a great job throughout.  We explored all over and got so many wonderful images with amazing backgrounds.  I normally share at least one black and white image in my sneak peeks, but I simply adore all of the color in these photos.  🙂  Enjoy your sneak peek, guys!!Little Compton garden, sakonnet garden, pink flowersBeautiful family photo in gardenPortrait of a boy sitting on a benchKids kissing dad, family in front of flowersBrother and sister sibling picture in garden

For those curious about the garden or for gardeners out there wanting more information, their website is www.sakonnetgarden.com.  They are having their first open house on June 2 so if you are in the Little Compton area, definitely stop by, it is really something to behold!!  Please realize however, that this is a private property not open to the public normally.

I love meeting new families when I go to newborn sessions – and I don’t mean new clients, but rather new *families*.  It is one thing when you get married because you become an official “couple”.  But when you have your first baby, when you bring that little tiny being home with you, you have all of a sudden magically transformed from a couple into a family.   It’s especially awesome when I am chatting with the parents and I find out something like I did about baby G’s mom and dad – they’ve been together since mom was a freshman in high school!  It gets me all sappy emotional and happy inside when I meet couples like them because it’s REALLY a special turning point to grow from two to three after all those years.  Now I had already been looking forward to baby G’s birth for quite a while before he got here.  The reason?  He was a surprise gender baby!  I so rarely have that nowadays, it was really something different to wait for the excited email from my client, not only to tell me they had had the baby but whether it was a boy or a girl!  In this case it was a gorgeous, healthy baby boy.   So off I went for his newborn session this past Wednesday and oh what a great time I had!   Not only did I absolutely adore mom and dad (SO fun and those personalities you just click with within five minutes) but at ten days old, baby G was an amazing little sleeper and did a great job throughout.   A few personal favorite notes about these – newborn hands are difficult to shoot because they usually like to keep them in fists and close to their heads.  But in this session I got one of my favorite hand shots EVER.  And then the last shot — we did a photo with big fur brother and sister Brody and Daisy – Daisy was totally listening to her owners and holding the pose.  But Brody wanted some extra kisses while he was near the new baby and I kinda love it.  😉  Newborn boy on blue blanketNewborn on tan and cream blanketNewborn hands shot imageNewborn shot with dogs

Mom and dad it was so great to finally meet you guys!   G is just adorable and perfect.  🙂
